RICHARDSON, Texas – The 2015 American Southwest Conference Track and Field Championships are set for Friday-Saturday (April 24-25) at the HSU Track and Field Complex on the campus of Hardin Simmons University.
 
The competing teams include both the men's and women's squads from Concordia Texas, East Texas Baptist, Hardin Simmons, Sul Ross State and Texas-Tyler. The field of athletes features three returning award winners led by Hardin-Simmons senior Dustin Baker and junior Evlyn Collins, the 2014 ASC Top Male and Female Scorers and Texas-Tyler sophomore Whitney Simmons, the 2014 ASC Field Athlete of the Year.
 
Baker enters the 2015 Championship meet as the top ranked Division III athlete in the ASC with three event scores ranked in the top 50. Baker holds the highest ranking by a men’s ASC athlete at 14th in the hammer throw (168’5) and ranks 38th in the shot put (50’6.75) and 46th in the discus throw (161’7).
 
Collins ranks 20th in the discus throw (138’3) leads the ASC in the javelin throw (95’7). Simmons is the highest ranking ASC women’s athlete at second in the hammer throw (185’0) and also ranks 24th in the discus (136’8).
 
The Texas-Tyler men’s team returns as a two-time defending ASC champion claiming titles in each of the last two conference meets (2013, 2014). Ford Noack holds two ASC top running times in the 800 meter (1:54.52) and the 1,500 meter (4:00.34). Noack’s 800 meter time ranks 49th in Division III.
 
Several other notable ASC athletes currently hold top-50 rankings in Division III.
 
Texas-Tyler sophomore Kevonte Shaw, who won the championship for the NCAA Division III Indoor 200 meter run, holds the league’s top time and currently ranks 23rd in the same event (21.81). UT Tyler sophomore Alexis Baldwin holds two top-20 rankings at fourth in the 100 meter (11.99) and ranks 13th in the 200 meter (24.94).
 
Sul Ross State freshman Jermaine Stevens ranks 42nd in Division III in the long jump (22'5.75), Hardin-Simmons sophomore Rachel Davis ranks 40th in the discus throw (133’9) and East Texas Baptist freshman Jayln Hernandez ranks 46th in the triple jump (44'11.5).
 
The NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University will run at the Merrick-Pinkard Track and Field Complex in Canton, N.Y. The NCAA Championship selections will be released May 17 at 9:00 a.m. EST on NCAA.com. The NCAA Championships will run from May 21-24.
