Video Interviews: Texas-Tyler's Bob Hepler and Ross Renfroe
SEGUIN, TX - Behind a first place individual finish from senior Ross Renfroe, the UT Tyler men's cross country team won the 2011 American Southwest Conference Championships on Saturday. It was the Patriots sixth ASC title and second
-consecutive.
Led by Renfroe's medalist time of 25:42.30 in the 8,000-meter race, the UT Tyler men took five of the top ten spots to finish with a team score of 22. Ozarks was second with 52 team points, followed by McMurry with 84.
Following Renfroe's team-best time of the season, Jeff Chandler placed third in the meet with a 26:04 time and fellow Patriot Nicklas Huff came in fourth at 26:06.
Will Krogman took sixth place with a 26:45 mark and Ford Noack was eighth at 26:58 for UT Tyler.
Renfroe, Chandler, Huff and Krogman were named the fist team All-Conference, while Noack and Kyle Clawson received second team honors. Head coach Bob Hepler was named the ASC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
In all, the Patriots had 11 runners in the Top 25 and the top five UT Tyler runners had an aveage time of 26:19.
The Patriots will return to Seguin in two weeks for the NCAA South/Southest Regional Meet, also being hosted by Texas Lutheran.
