9.1: In the event of position ties in the regular-season Conference standings, the tie-breaking procedures to determine ASC Championship Tournament seeding or the football automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship shall be as follows. The formula is not used to break position ties in the regular-season standings (ties stand). In sports with a Division format, the tie-breaking procedure is done among Division opponents unless otherwise specified in the criteria.
9.1.1 TWO-WAY TIES: In the event of a two-way tie, the seed positions are determined by:
a. Record against each other.
b. Record against each Conference opponent in descending order starting with the highest seeded team.
c. Point-Run-Goal Differential between tied teams (maximum capped).
d. Point-Run-Goal Differential (maximum capped) against each team within the Conference in descending order.
e. Coin toss by the Commissioner to determine the highest seeded team(s).
9.1.2 MULTIPLE TIES: In the event of a tie with three or more teams, the seed positions are determined by the following formula. When a team has been seeded, the remaining teams are placed at the beginning of the appropriate formula for "Multiple Ties" or "Two-Way Ties" until all ties have been broken.
9.1.2.1 MULTIPLE TIES / ALL SPORTS, EXCEPT FOOTBALL AND TENNIS:
1. Collective win-loss record against other tied teams.
2. Record against each Conference opponent in descending order starting with the highest seeded team.
3. Collective Point-Run-Goal Differential between tied teams (maximum capped).
4. Point-Run-Goal Differential (maximum capped) against each team within the Conference in descending order.
5. Coin toss by the Commissioner to determine the highest seeded team(s).
9.1.2.2 MULTIPLE TIES / TENNIS: (8/1/2014)
1. Head-to-head vs. tied teams.
2. Dual match Conference team scores between tied teams.
3. Total sets won-lost between tied teams. In default, retired or incomplete matches, count singles two sets and doubles one set (pro). Matches suspended for reasons other than weather will not be counted for either team.
4. Use steps 1-2-3 vs. Conference teams in descending order starting with the highest seeded team within the Conference.
5. Highest ranked team in the published ITA rankings prior to the seeding date for the tournament.
6. Coin toss by the Commissioner.
9.1.2.3 MULTIPLE TIES / FOOTBALL: In the event of a three-way or more tie at first-place in the season standings, the following formula is used to determine the conference automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Football Championship. (8/1/2014)
1. Collective win-loss record against other tied teams.
2. Record against each team within the Conference in descending order.
3. Positive points scored against tied teams (maximum capped at 21 points; a loss is zero points).
4. Positive points scored against each team within the Conference in descending order (maximum capped at 21 points; a loss is zero points).
5. Coin toss by the Commissioner.
MAXIMUM CAP-- POINT-RUN-GOAL DIFFERENTIAL: In designated sports, a maximum cap is used for each game in Point-Run-Goal Differential. The caps are established as follows:
- Baseball: Fewest runs allowed against tied teams per game.
- Basketball: 10 points per game.
- Football: 21 points per game.
- Soccer: 3 goals per match
- Softball: 6 runs per game.
- Volleyball: Match sets won-lost, followed by a point-differential with a cap of 6 points per set.
