All-Conference, All-Division, individual honors selected
RICHARDSON, Texas The 1998-99 Mens Basketball All-Conference and All-Division teams have been selected after a vote taken by conference basketball coaches. Austin Colleges Christian Morgia and McMurrys Daniel Martinez, the East and West Division Players of the Year respectively, headline an All-Conference team loaded with talent. Morgia, a senior guard from Trophy Club, Texas, leads the ASC in scoring with 24.2 points per game, and Martinez, a junior guard from El Paso, Texas, leads the ASC in steals (4.24 per game) and is second in assists with 6.38 per game. Two of the top five scores in the conference have also been selected. Sul Ross State Universitys Brandon Harvey, a senior post from San Antonio, Texas, is averaging 19.7 points per game and University of Dallas George Schneller, last seasons freshman of the year, is second in scoring with 20.0 points per game. Rounding out the All-Conference team is Mississippi College senior guard Rusty Chapman. Chapman is ninth in scoring with 17.0 points per game and is second in three-point field goal percentage (.444) and third three-point field goals made (2.78).
Players qualified for All-Conference recognition by being named to the First Team in their respective divisions. University of the Ozarks Ben Jones and Mississippi Colleges David Horner also earned First Team East Division honors. In the West Division, Kevin Breaux and Bradley Waters represent Hardin-Simmons, and Mary Hardin-Baylor Chuck Summers round out the First Team.
Morgia and Martinez were named East and West Division Players of the Year. Martinez was also selected West Defensive Player of the Year, Mississppi Colleges Brad Schut picked up the award in the East Division. Freshman of the Year Awards went to University of the Ozarks Ricky Johnson in the East Division, and Hardin-Simmons Andre White in the West Division. Mississippi Colleges Mike Jones and McMurrys Ron Holmes were named Coach of the Year in the East and West Divisions respectively.
