HITTER OF THE WEEKZach Gartner, So., OF, East Texas Baptist
Sophomore outfielder Zach Gartner (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands HS) went 8-for-20 at the plate with three homeruns, a .400 average and 11 RBI last week. He went 4-of-4 with two homeruns and four RBI in game one against Univ. of Dallas on Tuesday. Gartner later had four RBI in game one against Southwestern with a three-run homerun. He followed that with three RBI in game three against Southwestern. He also scored seven runs and posted a .455 on-base percentage.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEKCody Brown, Sr., RHP, UT Tyler
Senior pitcher Cody Brown (Fulshear, Texas / Fort Bend Austin HS) recorded a career-best 11 strikeouts in a 4-0 complete-game win over Belhaven last Saturday. Brown threw the first complete-game for the Patriots this season and earned the win in the second game of the series as the Patriots took the win in seven innings with BU being limited to six hits.  Brown now has 31 strikeouts and a 2.74 ERA through four starts and 23 innings for the Patriots this season.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES AT THE PLATE
 
Concordia Texas junior outfielder Michael Evan (Cameron, Texas / Yoe HS) hit.500 from the plate over the weekend, including a pair of doubles and a triple as the Tornados went 2-1 against conference foe Sul Ross State. Evan drove in a run and scored twice.
 
Hardin-Simmons junior third baseman Taylor Cooling (Mont Belvieu, Texas / Barbers Hill HS) hit .615 (8-for-13) in the weekend series with Mary Hardin-Baylor and scored seven runs and drove in four from his leadoff spot. He also made the move from shortstop to third base for the first time in his career. For the weekend he had a .667 on-base percentage and anchored the Cowboys’ offense.
 
Howard Payne senior first baseman Brett Quackenbush (Kingsville, Texas / Riviera Kaufer HS) led the Jackets to a 4-1 record last week with three multi-hit games. He went 7-for-11 for a .636 average, four doubles and one triple. He drove in three runs and recorded a stolen base and had a 1.182 slugging percentage.
 
LeTourneau senior second baseman Kyle Jacobs (Leander, Texas / Rouse HS) went 5-for-14 (.357) at the plate in a three-game series with Austin College. Jacobs racked up a team-high five RBI and nine total bases including a homerun in the 7-2 win in game two. Jacobs also led the YellowJackets in runs scored as he crossed the plate five times over the weekend.
 
Louisiana College senior second baseman Seth Stevens (Central, La. / Central Private School) was a key part of the Wildcats two game-winning rallies against McMurry. He hit .467 (7-for-15) from the plate with four RBI, three of them coming in the Wildcats final at-bats of games two and three.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor freshman outfielder Austin Blanford (Boerne, Texas / Champion HS) hit .455 and posted an on-base percentage of .600 over four games last week. He drove in four runs and scored five more as UMHB went 2-2 last week.
 
Univ. of Ozarks freshman first baseman Chase Edwards (Chandler, Ariz. / Horizon Community) went 10-for-16 (.625) at the plate over four games last week with three, three-hit games. He homered and scored two runs against Hendrix College. In a comeback win against No. 23 UT Dallas, Edwards had a key two-out hit in the bottom of the ninth to set up the game-tying run.
 
UT Dallas junior first baseman Barry Casey (Southlake, Texas / Carroll HS) hit .444 with three extra-base hits as he sparked the Comets to a 3-1 record last week. After going 2-for-5 in UTD's 11-3 home win over Southwestern on Monday, Casey was 6-for-13 with six RBI and three runs scored in a three-game series at Univ. of Ozarks over the weekend. He was 4-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored Friday in UTD's 8-3 win in the series opener. He later belted his team-leading fourth home run in Saturday's first game against Ozarks in a 12-0 win.
 
UT Tyler senior outfielder Trenton Buchhorn (Arlington, Texas / Arlington Martin HS) extended his hitting streak to 10 games helping the Patriots to a 4-0 week. Buchhorn had six hits, including a double and triple and lead the team with four RBI. He had a triple in a road win at LSU-Alexandria and had five hits against Belhaven who were swept in Tyler. He also led UT Tyler with six runs scored and is now hitting .448 with 26 hits through 14 games. Buchhorn has 14 RBI which has him at 74 RBI over the past two years with the Patriots.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES ON THE MOUND
 
Concordia Texas senior pitcher Matthew Brown (Houston, Texas / St. Thomas HS) pitched seven innings of one-hit ball against Sul Ross State, who ranked in the top 10 in the country in runs scored. He carried a no hitter into the fifth inning, with the one hit dropping just inside the left field line. Brown struck out four on the night and earned his second win of the year.
 
East Texas Baptist sophomore pitcher Zach Pollard (Midlothian, Texas / Red Oak HS) had a solid outing starting off the series vs. Southwestern. He went 6.0 innings and allowed just two earned runs and four hits in the 14-2 win.
 
Howard Payne senior pitcher Matthew Parks (Georgetown, Texas / Liberty Hill HS) got the Jackets started out right in their weekend series at Univ. of Dallas posting a 6-2 victory in game one of the series. Parks had six strikeouts and walked just one in 5.2 innings of work. He allowed just one run on six hits for his second win of the season.
 
LeTourneau sophomore pitcher Andrew Harlan (Lewisville, Texas / Lewisville HS) pitched a complete game on the way to his first win of the season. The right-hander struck out one and forced seven groundouts and 13 fly outs. Harlan gave up two unearned runs on three hits in his seven-inning effort.
 
Louisiana College senior pitcher Austin Thompson (Elmer, La. / Oak Hill HS) pitched 7.0 innings in a no-decision in game two against McMurry. Thompson gave up four runs on seven hits but kept LC in the game, giving them a chance to win. He struck out seven and walked two, holding the War Hawks to a .250 batting average.
 
Univ. of Ozarks sophomore pitcher Dalton Spurgeon (Lee's Summit, Mo. / Lee's Summit HS) tossed 5.1 innings against No. 23 UT Dallas and allowed just one earned run. He allowed five hits and struck out one to earn a no-decision. Spurgeon induced one double play during the game.
 
UT Dallas junior pitcher Jamie Andriot (Plano, Texas / Homeschooled) struck out a season-high 10 batters as he improved to 3-0 in an 8-3 victory against Univ. of Ozarks to open a three-game series with the Eagles. Andriot scattered six hits in 7.0 innings of work with two earned runs and no walks in the win. For the season, Andriot now has 27 strikeouts in 24.0 innings, ranking second in the ASC.
