HITTER OF THE WEEKTrenton Buchhorn, Sr., OF, UT Tyler
Senior outfielder Trenton Buchhorn (Arlington, Texas / Arlington Martin HS) led the Patriots with eight RBI and 10 hits during a four-game week that included a conference series sweep at Univ. of Ozarks. Buchhorn had three hits in three of four games and hit a grand slam in the series opener as part of a five-RBI performance. It was the third game of his career with five RBI. He started the week going 3-for-4 with an RBI against Centenary (La.) and finished the week with four doubles and five runs scored. Buchhorn is now hitting .426 on the season with 26 RBI. He leads the Patriots with nine doubles and two triples and now has two homeruns this season.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEKAustin Thompson, Sr., LHP, Louisiana College
Senior pitcher Austin Thompson (Elmer, La. / Oak Hill HS) picked up a win in the Wildcats’ 7-1 victory over Hardin-Simmons. He threw a season-high 112 pitches in six innings on the mound, holding HSU to just three hits, giving up one unearned run, and striking out 11. His strikeout total was the most in a single game this season for LC. He held the Cowboys to a .143 batting average in the win.

Belhaven junior infielder Will Costinett (St. Francisville, La. / West Feliciana HS) helped the Blazers rally from a six-run deficit in the series finale against Concordia Texas on Saturday. Costinett launched a two-run homerun in the seventh and the eighth innings to help the Blazers defeat the Tornados, 12-11. He finished with five hits and RBI each, while slugging .846.
 
East Texas Baptist graduate first baseman Conner Combs (Southlake, Texas / Carroll HS) hit two homeruns over the three-game series against Sul Ross State. His second homerun came in game three to put ETBU up for good (6-5) in an 8-7 win. He posted a .909 slugging percentage and was 3-of-5 in game one with two RBI and a homerun.
 
Hardin-Simmons senior third baseman Jace Langen (Iowa Park, Texas / Iowa Park HS) got inserted into the starting lineup after a season-ending injury to Gunny Evans and responded going 7-for-14 with three RBI and three runs scored. He had an RBI in each of the three Cowboy wins during the week.
 
Howard Payne junior outfielder Benjamin Lewis (Fort Worth, Texas / Brewer HS) went 6-for-12 at the plate as the Yellow Jackets swept LeTourneau to improve to 7-2 in conference play. Lewis recorded multiple hits in game two and three of the series with a 3-for-5 outing in the series finale. Striking out only once in the series, Lewis finished the weekend with a .500 average and a .571 on-base percentage.
 
LeTourneau junior outfielder Gonzalo Sosa (Houston, Texas / Langham Creek HS) was 5-for-15 at the plate last week and racked up 10 total bases for the YellowJackets. Sosa had three RBI including a solo homerun against Howard Payne. Sosa has scored four runs and finished with a .667 slugging percentage.
 
Louisiana College sophomore outfielder Ashton Martin (Denham Springs, La. / Denham Springs HS) went 5-for-11 (.455) and had hits in all three games against Hardin-Simmons. He had an RBI single in the first game to extend the Wildcats’ lead, and had base hits in his first at-bats in game two and three. He was also 2-for-2 in stolen bases in the series.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor senior first baseman Ty Johnson (Copperas Cove, Texas / Copperas Cove HS) slugged .923 and drove in seven runs over four games last week. Johnson drove in two runs and earned the victory on the mound in a win over Texas Lutheran. He also drove in one of the runs in a 2-0 victory over McMurry. Johnson closed out the week with two homeruns in an 8-6 victory to close the series. He hit a game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to give the Cru the win. He also scored four runs over the four games.
 
Univ. of Ozarks junior outfielder Patrick Mixon (Lewisville, Texas / Flower Mound Marcus HS) hit .461 with six RBI over four games for the Eagles. Mixon went 2-for-3 with a homerun and five RBI against Austin College.

Belhaven junior pitcher Austin Douglas (Mount Olive, Miss. / Simpson Academy) helped the Blazers to two wins over the weekend against Concordia Texas. In his first appearance on the weekend, Douglas went 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win in a 3-2, 11-inning victory on Friday, allowing two hits and striking out three. On Saturday, he struck out the side to earn the save in a 12-11 win. In nine appearances this season, Douglas has 13 strikeouts in 11.1 innings and has held opposing hitters to a .196 average.
 
East Texas Baptist sophomore pitcher Chad Boudreaux (Spring, Texas / Klein Oak HS) faced just four batters with the game on the line and struck out two. He came on in the top of the eighth inning with two outs and the tying run on base and struck out the only batter he faced. In the ninth inning, he went 1-2-3 with two fly outs and a strikeout to end the game and earn the save.
 
Hardin-Simmons senior pitcher Garrett Johnston (Graham, Texas / Graham HS) worked seven strong innings in a 7-1 win over Louisiana College that gave the Cowboys the series win. Johnston finished with a 1.29 ERA and gave up six hits with three strikeouts and did not allow a walk.
 
Howard Payne senior pitcher Kyle Ramon (San Antonio, Texas / East Central HS) posted his first win of the season in a 6-1 victory over LeTourneau in game two of the weekend series. Ramon allowed just one run on three hits while striking out four and held batters to a .158 average.
 
LeTourneau freshman pitcher Luke Ludwig (Spring, Texas / Home school) struck out seven in 8.2 innings of relief pitching last week. Ludwig helped the YellowJackets complete a comeback win over Wiley College as he struck out five and gave up just three hits. He held opposing batters to just a .167 average at the plate.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor senior pitcher Aaron Barteau (Dallas, Texas / Bishop Lynch HS) recorded two saves last week. He struck out six of the 10 batters he faced in two appearances and allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings. He posted saves against Texas Lutheran and McMurry to give him five saves on the season.
 
Univ. of Ozarks freshman pitcher Gyeongju Kim (Seoul, Korea) scattered six hits over 8.0 innings to receive the win against Austin College. Kim retired the side in the first, second and third innings to open the game and recorded seven strikeouts in his first appearance of the season.
 
UT Tyler junior pitcher Ryan Cheatham (Whitehouse, Texas / Whitehouse HS) improved to 7-0 on the season after earning a win over Univ. of Ozarks in the second game of the series last Saturday in Arkansas. Cheatham struck out three and scattered eight hits over six innings in a 9-3 win. Cheatham leads Division III in wins and has a 2.42 ERA. He has 30 strikeouts through 44 2/3 innings and has held opposing batters to a .195 average.
