Alyssa Crockett
and Concordia Texas junior
Jaela Dejean
were named the East and West Division Players of the Year announced by the league office in conjunction with the release of the 2017 American Southwest Conference Women’s Basketball All-Conference teams on Tuesday (Feb. 28), following a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Crockett
is the second Comet named East Division Player of the Year joining Lyndsey Smith (2012). Crockett started all 25 games for UTD and led the team in scoring (15.0) en route to its second division title and first since 2009. Ranked fifth in the ASC free throw percentage (.790), Crockett shot .447 from the field, pulled down 115 rebounds, handed out 62 assists and had 34 steals.
Dejean
is the fourth Concordia Texas recipient of the West Division Player of the Year, and first since Shamika Singleton (2011). One of just three ASC players to score more than 400 points on the year, Dejean ranks third in scoring (17.2) and field goal percentage (.427), ranks 11th in free throw percentage (.770) and 13th in assists (2.8).
Crockett and Dejean, who were both selected to the prestigious five-player ASC All-Conference Team, are joined by LeTourneau senior

. Obach joins elite company as the first three-time all-conference selection in UT Tyler history and is one of seven players in ASC history with three all-conference awards.
In the East Division, UT Dallas received five individual awards. In addition to Crockett’s Player of the Year, senior
Kayla Reinhart
was named Newcomer of the Year,
Micaela Gonzalez
received dual honors as Defensive Player of the Year and Co-Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, and
Polly Thomason
was named Coach of the Year. Thomason led UT Dallas to its second East Division title and the most wins in conference (15) and overall (22). East Texas Baptist collected two honors as
Hannah Holt
was named Freshman of the Year and
Lauren Lee
was named Co-Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. Holt is the fifth ETBU Freshman of the Year recipient and was the only freshman to receive all-division honors.
In the West Division, Mary Hardin-Baylor picked up dual honors as
Kendall Rollins
was named Freshman of the Year and senior
Kendra Wynn
received Defensive Player of the Year honors. Rollins is the sixth UMHB player named Freshman of the Year, the most in the ASC. A second-team West Division selection, Sul Ross State senior
Ellen Avery
was named Newcomer of the Year and McMurry’s
London Weilert
is the first War Hawk named Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. Howard Payne coach
Meia Daniels
received her second consecutive Coach of the Year award, giving HPU a league-best six coach awards.
