HITTER OF THE WEEKTrenton Buchhorn, Sr., OF, UT Tyler
Senior outfielder Trenton Buchhorn (Arlington, Texas / Arlington Martin HS) went 12-for-18 (.667) with nine RBI and 16 total bases to lead the Patriots to a 3-1 record. Buchhorn had two doubles, a triple, and nine singles and scored four runs. He had three hits in the game at Southwestern (Texas) and in the opener at Howard Payne with three RBI. Buchhorn was limited to one hit in the third game of the week before posting a career-high five hits during a 5-for-6 performance with four RBI in the series finale at HPU. He had two doubles, a triple and two singles during the win. Buchhorn is now hitting .465 with 20 hits and 10 RBI through 10 games this season.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEKMatthew Brown, Sr., RHP, Concordia Texas
Senior pitcher Matthew Brown (Houston, Texas / St. Thomas HS) notched his first win of the season over No. 10 Concordia Chicago. Brown pitched 6.0 innings of one-run ball giving up only four hits. Brown struck out three while walking one and gave up one extra base hit.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES AT THE PLATE
 
Belhaven senior outfielder Stephen Sexton (Pontotoc, Miss. / Tupelo Christian Prep) recorded three doubles and a home run in a combined four games against Millsaps and Hardin-Simmons. Sexton went 6-for-13 overall with six RBI and five runs scored.
 
Concordia Texas senior third baseman Colton Poindexter (Humble, Texas / Atascocita HS) went 5-of-11 at the plate as the Tornados went 3-0 over the weekend. Poindexter had two hits, including a triple and two RBI in the team's win over No. 10 Concordia Chicago on Friday night. He followed with another two-hit performance, including the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth as the Tornados walked off (5-4).
 
East Texas Baptist sophomore outfielder Zach Gartner (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands HS) had his best series of his career with a home run, double, and triple in the series against LeTourneau. In game one, he went 3-of-4 with a triple and a home run and one RBI. His first hit was a triple that gave ETBU a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. He then hit a solo homerun in the eighth inning to put ETBU up by three (5-2). In game three, he doubled in a run to put ETBU up 7-5 in the seventh inning as ETBU won, 8-6. In 12 at-bats, Gartner only struck out once and was never walked.
 
Hardin-Simmons junior shortstop Taylor Cooling (Mont Belvieu, Texas / Barbers Hill HS) had a solid week at the top of the cowboys' lineup with eight hits.
 
Howard Payne sophomore shortstop Noah Payne (Humble, Texas / Atascocita HS) led the Jackets going 5-for-11 at the plate against No. 18/20 UT Tyler. Payne was 3-for-4 in game one and finished the series with three RBI and a stolen base.
 
LeTourneau sophomore shortstop Jacob Faubion (McKinney, Texas / McKinney North HS) led the YellowJacket offense hitting .364 (4-for-11) at the plate and collecting five total bases. He picked up two RBI in the series finale on a double to left field helping LETU jump out to an early 5-1 lead.
 
Louisiana College sophomore outfielder Ashton Martin (Denham Springs, La. / Denham Springs HS) went a perfect 6-for-6 from the leadoff spot in the Wildcats series victory against Univ. of Ozarks. Martin reached base in 9-of-10 plate appearances in the series, including going 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in the series finale. His RBI single in the fourth inning of game two put the Wildcats up by a 4-3 margin, and he later scored on a single in the same inning.
 
Univ. of Ozarks senior designated hitter Andrew Beck (Conway, Ark. / St. Joseph HS) went 7-for-10 with five RBI in the Eagles series against Louisiana College. Beck had a pair of three-hit games and scored twice.
 
Sul Ross State junior first baseman Ryan Almager (Lubbock, Texas / Monterey HS) finished a four-game week batting .344. Almager clubbed a pair of homers and recorded three doubles in games against UT- Permian Basin and No. 7 Trinity (Texas).
 
UT Dallas freshman shortstop Isaiah Swann (Marietta, Ga. / Wheeler HS) went 7-for-10 from the plate to lead a Comets team that hit .430 in a three-game home sweep of Hendrix last weekend. Swann had a pair of 3-for-4 games from the nine-hole with five runs scored and two RBI, while drawing a pair of walks as UTD outscored the Warriors, 43-10 in the series.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES ON THE MOUND
 
Belhaven senior pitcher Tanner Cable (Southaven, Miss. / Southaven HS) took the mound in the opening game against Hardin-Simmons and earned the combined shutout with Austin Douglas, going 6.1 innings. The duo allowed five hits, three walks and struck out a season-high eight batters. Hitting the century mark in pitches for the first time this season (112), Cable has a 2.81 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 16 innings this season.
 
East Texas Baptist senior pitcher Ashley Dukes (Gladewater, Texas / Sabine HS) moved to the game one starter and went 8.1 innings in the nine-inning game for the series opening win. He struck out a career-high nine batters and had no walks in 34 batters. He didn't give up any earned runs, retired the side three times and gave up one extra base hit in the six hits he allowed.
 
Howard Payne senior pitcher Matthew Parks (Georgetown, Texas / Liberty Hill HS) posted a shutout victory against No. 18/20 UT Tyler in game two of the weekend series. Parks allowed three hits with three strike outs and walked none in the 3-0 victory. In six innings of work, Parks held the Patriots to a .150 average for the day.
 
LeTourneau sophomore pitcher Andrew Harlan (Lewisville, Texas / Lewisville HS) recorded a season-high six strikeouts in his seven-inning effort in the second game of the ETBU series. Harlan faced 31 batters and giving up six runs on seven hits. He forced five groundouts and eight foul outs in his third appearance at the mound this season.
 
Louisiana College senior pitcher Evan Mativi (Prairieville, La. / Dutchtown HS) made his second appearance of the season out of the Wildcats bullpen, and pitched 5.1 innings of shut down baseball in the series wining game against Univ. of Ozarks. Taking over in the fourth inning with one out, Mativi pitched the rest of the game giving up three hits and striking out nine batters to get his first win of the season. The Eagles hit .150 while he was in the game after going 7-for-16 (.438) through the first 3.2 innings before Mativi entered.
 
Univ. of Ozarks junior pitcher Jacob Barker (Russellville, Ark. / Russellville HS) received the win in relief against Louisiana College after tossing the final 1.2 innings and striking out two.
 
UT Dallas junior pitcher Ruben Renteria (El Paso, Texas / Montwood HS) recorded the eighth one-hitter in UTD history Saturday afternoon as he opened the Comets' doubleheader against Hendrix with a 13-0, complete-game victory. Renteria flirted with the Comets' first-ever perfect game, retiring the first 18 batters, before giving up a lead-off infield single in the seventh inning. Renteria would induce a game-ending double play, however, to finish the contest facing the minimum 21 batters. He struck out eight without issuing a walk as he improved to 2-0 on the season.
 
UT Tyler junior pitcher Ryan Cheatham (Whitehouse, Texas / Whitehouse HS) struck out seven and limited Howard Payne to three hits in five innings of work to help lead the Patriots to a series finale win last Saturday in Brownwood. Cheatham limited the Jackets to a .176 batting average during the game and worked around five walks with the use of the strikeouts. Cheatham improved to 3-0 on the season with the win and now has 14 strikeouts. He is the first Patriot with three wins this season and owns a 2.00 ERA though 18 innings of work.
