HITTER OF THE WEEKChris York, Jr., 3B, Sul Ross State
Junior third baseman Chris York (Lubbock, Texas / Lubbock HS) went 7-for-14 at the plate over a four-game series against visiting Howard Payne last weekend. York posted a .500 batting average and notched three homeruns including a grand slam in the second game of the series. He tallied 16 total bases, six RBI and five runs scored.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEKCody Brown, Sr., RHP, UT Tyler
Senior pitcher Cody Brown (Fulshear, Texas / Fort Bend Austin HS) picked up a win against No. 11 Trinity (Texas) with eight strikeouts in a 5-2 win for the Patriots to open the Clements Fluids Classic in Tyler. Brown secured the win after throwing 5 and 1/3 innings where he scattered five hits and had a season-best eight strikeouts against the Tigers.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES AT THE PLATE
 
Belhaven senior infielder JG Miley (Tupelo, Miss. / Tupelo HS) helped lead the Blazers to a series victory win with his speed on the base paths. Miley recorded a double and triple in the series and scored the game-tying run in game two of the series on Friday. In the series finale, he scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning en route to a 3-0 victory.
 
Concordia Texas senior designated hitter Jake Valadez (Round Rock, Texas / Round Rock HS) went 3-4 for the Tornados in their 6-2 win over fifth-ranked Birmingham Southern. Valadez had a double and drove in two runs. He also had a stolen base in the game. In Friday's game against the Panthers, Valadez had a hit and an RBI.
 
East Texas Baptist sophomore third baseman Landen Barns (Cypress, Texas / Rosehill Christian HS) had the best outing of his career at ETBU with seven RBI in a single game against Jarvis Christian. He had his second home run of the year in eighth inning to make it 21-7. In second inning Barns had a two RBI single to put ETBU in front for good, 3-1.
 
Hardin-Simmons junior designated hitter/catcher Dylan Sweeney (Midlothian, Texas / Midlothian HS) drove in four runs and hit .500 for the week as the Cowboys won a series on the road at Schreiner.
 
Howard Payne sophomore shortstop Noah Payne (Humble, Texas / Atascocita HS) led the Yellow Jackets in a four game series at Sul Ross State. Payne was 5-for-11 at the plate and totaled six bases with two stolen bases.
 
LeTourneau sophomore catcher Noah Mahoney (Flower Mound, Texas / THESA) went 4-for-9 (.444) at the plate including a 2-for-4 performance against Centenary (La.). He also scored two of the eight runs for LeTourneau.
 
Louisiana College senior second baseman Seth Stevens (Central, La. / Central Private School) went 4-for-8 from the plate in the Wildcats double-header split with Loyola (La.) on Friday. Stevens reached base four times on four hits on the day, bringing in a run and scoring another run. Stevens leads the team in batting through the first six games of the season with a .500 average and nine RBI.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore outfielder Mason Schuh (Magnolia, Texas / Magnolia HS) batted .333 and had two of the Cru’s three doubles last weekend. He drove in a pair of runs and slugged .500 over three contests.
 
Univ. of Ozarks junior outfielder Justin Crider (Dallas, Texas / Liberty HS) drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th in a game one win. Crider posted three hits and scored twice. For the series, Crider finished 4-for-11 with two doubles and a triple.
 
UT Dallas junior third baseman Connor Scruggs (Garland, Texas / Naaman Forest HS) hit .500 as he sparked the Comets to a 4-0 performance on the road last week. Scruggs opened the week going 3-for-4 with two RBI in Tuesday's 4-3 road win over Texas Wesleyan. He then went 4-for-10 from the plate with two RBI and two runs scored, while drawing four walks, in the Comets' three-game weekend sweep of No. 10 Texas Lutheran.
 
UT Tyler senior designated hitter Daniel Williams (Katy, Texas / Mayde Creek HS) continued his impressive start to the season by going 8-for-12 and drove in five runs for the Patriots who went 3-0 in their home tournament with victories over No. 11 Trinity (Texas), Mary Hardin-Baylor and Centenary (La.). Williams had one double and seven singles during the three-game tournament. Williams completed the weekend by going 4-for-4 with two RBI to lift the Patriots to a 4-1 win over Centenary.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES ON THE MOUND
 
Belhaven senior pitcher Tyler Wolfe (Houston, Texas / J. Frank Dobie HS) recorded a complete game shutout of McMurry in the series finale to help the Blazers win the series. Wolfe hurled 90 pitches and fanned seven batters, while only allowing one walk on seven hits.
 
Concordia Texas junior pitcher Kylen Harrell (Cameron, Texas / C.H. Yoe HS) made a relief appearance with a 6-2 lead and would go on to pitch four innings of two-hit ball allowing no runs and getting the win as the Tornados defeated No. 5 Birmingham Southern. Harrell struck out one batter and walked another.
 
East Texas Baptist senior pitcher Logan Sprinkle (Pflugerville, Texas/ Pflugerville HS) came in relief in the first inning with just one out and went 4.2 innings for his first win of the year. He only gave up three hits facing 18 batters and retired the side once.
 
Hardin-Simmons senior pitcher Jeremy Hallmark (Midland, Texas / Midland HS) went seven strong innings and allowed just one run and struck out five as the Cowboys won the opening game of the series at Schreiner.
 
Howard Payne sophomore pitcher Seth Owen (Brownwood, Texas / Brownwood HS) picked up his second win in his second start as a Jacket against Sul Ross State. Owen struck out four and walked just two holding the Logos to a .220 average at the plate.
 
LeTourneau senior pitcher Jordan Carns (Sierra Vista, Arizona / Buena HS) pitched six innings allowing four runs on five hits against Centenary (La.) on Friday night. Carns finished with a 1.50 ERA and stuck out one batter in his second start of the season.
 
Louisiana College junior pitcher Jacob Buchanan (Livingston, La. / Doyle HS) was great for the Wildcats in their 2-1 pitching duel loss to Loyola (La.) on Friday. He pitched 6.1 innings of a seven inning game, allowing just one earned run on three hits. Buchanan struck out eight batters for the second start in a row, and only walked one.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor senior pitcher Nathan Kent (Hewitt, Texas / Midway HS) pitched seven shutout innings to get the win in a 1-0 victory over Centenary (La.) on Saturday. He scattered six hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter. The Gentlemen batted just .240 against Kent in the game.
 
Univ. of Ozarks freshman pitcher Jack Waggoner (Keller, Texas / Byron Nelson HS) threw six innings and struck out four in his collegiate debut.
 
UT Dallas junior reliever Cole Hanson (Houston, Texas / Cypress Fair HS) was arguably the Comets' top pitcher last week, recording a pair of scoreless relief appearance with one victory. Hanson tossed a hitless fame with a strikeout in a 4-3 road win over Texas Wesleyan Tuesday. He later pitched six scoreless inning with four strikeouts and gave up just three hits Sunday as the Comets completed their three-game weekend sweep of No. 10 Texas Lutheran with an 8-4 victory.
