Nine Members Honored with SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards

All-Time Winners
RICHARDSON, Texas - Nine American Southwest Conference member institutions were recognized by the 13 conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committees as recipients of ASC-SAAC Team Sportsmanship awards for the spring 2016 sport season.
The SAAC Team Sportsmanship award honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The spring 2016 awards are presented in baseball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s track and field with each of the 13 campus SAACs voting within the sports it sponsors.
Hardin-Simmons University
and
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
led all ASC members with four awards each.
Concordia University Texas
,
East Texas Baptist University
,
Howard Payne University
,
University of the Ozarks
each collected two awards while
LeTourneau University
,
Sul Ross State University
and
The University of Texas at Tyler
had one each.
Four sports had single team winners. Hardin-Simmons received its third award in baseball (2016, 10’, 09’), Mary Hardin-Baylor was credited with its third honor in men’s golf (2016, 13’, 08’), Univ. of Ozarks picked up its second consecutive honor in East Division women’s tennis (2016, ’15) and Concordia Texas was received its first award in men’s track and field.
Softball was too close to call as four teams shared honors for the 2016 season. East Texas Baptist received its fifth award (2016, 15’, 14’, 11’, 10’), Mary Hardin-Baylor and Univ. of Ozarks each picked up their first honors and Sul Ross State received its fourth (2016’, 13’, 11’, 10’).
In men’s tennis the West Division collected three awards as Concordia Texas and Howard Payne each picked up its first honor and Mary Hardin-Baylor picked up its third (2016, 11’, 10’).
Women’s golf, men’s tennis East Division, women’s tennis West Division and women’s track and field each awarded co-honors.
In women’s golf Hardin-Simmons received its second straight award (2016, 15’) and Mary Hardin-Baylor picked up its first. In men’s tennis East Division LeTourneau collected its fourth award (2016, 14’, 12’, 10’) and UT Tyler received its second (2016, 13’).
In women’s tennis West Division Hardin-Simmons landed its fourth award (2016, 11’, 10’, 08’) and Howard Payne received its first honor. In women’s track and field East Texas Baptist took home its first award and Hardin-Simmons received its third (2016, 14’. 09’).
The ASC SAAC Team Sportsmanship award is presented for the ninth year during the 2015-16 sport seasons.
