ASC Announces 2016 Football Schedule

RICHARDSON, Texas – The American Southwest Conference announced on Wednesday (April 6) its 2016 football schedule that features a nonconference slate of 31 games against teams from five different conferences.

The 2015 season saw a rare occurrence of tri-ASC champions and two ASC programs competed in the NCAA Division III Championship. Mary Hardin-Baylor reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament and Hardin-Simmons made its first appearance since 2008.

Belhaven will kick off the 2016 ASC football season on Thursday, September 1. The Blazers will host local rival Millsaps at 7:00 p.m. in Jackson, Miss. Belhaven enters its second year as a provisional member into Division III athletics. The Blazers will play a nonconference schedule and will count as an NCAA Championship in-region opponent.

On Saturday, September 3, all other ASC football programs will hit the gridiron in their season openers.

Louisiana College will take the field at 1:00 p.m. against Huntingdon College at home in Pineville, La.

Mary Hardin-Baylor, East Texas Baptist and Hardin-Simmons made history in 2015 as the same trio was named tri-ASC champions (2003, 2015) after finishing the regular season with matching 4-1 conference records.

The Cru will host Ohio Wesleyan in Belton. The Tigers will travel to Seguin to face in-state rival Texas Lutheran and the Cowboys will head to Georgetown to meet Southwestern. Each game will kick off at 6:00 p.m.

Sul Ross State and Howard Payne will take the field in its season openers at 7:00 p.m. The Lobos will take on Division II member Texas-Permian Basin in Odessa and the Jackets will welcome Southwest Assemblies of God to Brownwood.

McMurry will play a full conference schedule and is now eligible to win the ASC regular season title. The War Hawks open at Southwestern on September 10.
