AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games: April 11-17, 2016
HITTER OF THE WEEK – Colton Parker, Jr., DH, Hardin-Simmons
Junior designated hitter / first baseman Colton Parker (Decatur, Texas / Decatur HS) had an impressive weekend against Louisiana College, going 7-for-10 with five home runs. Four of the five home runs were solos and the other a two-run shot. Three led off innings and another came on a back-to-back with Colson Craddick. Parker scored seven times and drove in eight runs in the three game set. He had two in each game of the doubleheader on Friday and one on Saturday in the run-rule shortened game.
CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Lane Hobbs, Jr., RHP, Concordia Texas
Junior pitcher Lane Hobbs (Thrall, Texas / Temple JC) was once again back in form, despite adverse weather in Saturday's opener against Belhaven. He earned his seventh victory of the year and now has 78 strike outs and just 14 walks in 66 innings of work in 2016.
CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Colton Spears, Sr., RHP, Hardin-Simmons
Senior pitcher Colton Spears (Pflugerville, Texas / Pflugerville HS) tossed his third complete-game shutout of the season, which is a new HSU team record, in a 15-0 win over Louisiana College. Spears allowed just three hits and tied his season high with five strikeouts in the game.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES AT THE PLATE
Concordia Texas sophomore outfielder Michael Evan (Cameron, Texas / Yoe HS) was the catalyst for the Tornados in all three contests against Belhaven, but no hits were bigger than his two RBI shots to the outfield that lifted Concordia to a 2-0 victory in Saturday's opener. He now shares a team-high 24 RBI.
East Texas Baptist junior shortstop Zach Compton (Pflugerville, Texas / Pflugerville HS) led the Tigers hitting with a.778 average and a 1.333 slugging percentage. He went to the plate nine times and had seven hits including two doubles and a home run. In game one Compton hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to make it 9-2. He had three RBI in game one and one RBI in game three. He was perfect at the plate through the first two games going 6-of-6 with five runs scored and three RBI. In the final game he was 1-of-3 with a run scored and two walks.

Howard Payne senior second baseman Cody Cain (Midlothian, Texas / Midlothian HS) led the Jackets for the week going 9-for-14 at the plate over five games. Cain scored drove in four runs, scored seven times and tallied four walks. His week was highlighted with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate versus the University of the Southwest.
LeTourneau sophomore infielder Rayne Hobbs (Mont Belvieu, Texas / Barbers Hill HS) hit .455 in a three-game sweep of Howard Payne. Hobbs had a team-high five hits and was second on the team with three runs scored. He had two hits in the series opener and two more in the series finale. Hobbs scored a run in each of the games.
Ozarks freshman designated hitter Dakota Ebarb (Lavon, Texas / Community HS) went 5-for-9 with three RBI in a double-header upset sweep against No. 20 Texas-Tyler. Ebarb ripped an RBI double in the third to break open a 1-1 contest and give Ozarks the momentum it needed in a 7-4 game two win. He also scored three runs in the double-header. He finished the week 7-for-12 with four RBI and two doubles.
Texas Dallas freshman third baseman Ryan Burciaga (Katy, Texas / Morton Ranch HS) went 9-for-14 from the plate with four runs scored as he sparked the Comets to a 3-1 record last week. In Tuesday's home win over the University of Dallas, Burciaga went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. In the Comets' three-game series at McMurry, the was 6-for-10 with two runs scored as UTD took the series against the War Hawks.
Texas-Tyler junior infielder Trenton Buchhorn (Arlington, Texas / Arlington Martin) has recorded at least one RBI in 14 straight games after driving in four last weekend against Ozarks in Tyler. Buchhorn took a bases loaded walk in the opener, hit a last-inning RBI single through the right-side of the infield in the second game and then had a two-run home run in the finale. He now leads the conference with 43 RBI and is hitting .362 on the season with 13 doubles, five triples and a team-leading four home runs.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES ON THE MOUND
East Texas Baptist senior pitcher Ernest Perez (Corpus Christi, Texas / West Oso HS) had another strong outing on the mound going seven of nine innings in game one for his eighth win of the year. Perez retired the side four of the seven innings he pitched, recorded no walks and gave up just one extra base hit.
Howard Payne freshman pitcher Michael Cannon (Aubrey, Texas / Denton Ryan HS) picked up his first win as a Yellow Jacket in a 12-0 shutout of the University of the Southwest. He allowed just two hits through five innings and struck out three.
LeTourneau freshman pitcher Andrew Harlan (Lewisville, Texas / Lewisville HS) stepped up into the Friday night starting role and picked up the win against Howard Payne. Harlan allowed six hits and struck out seven in the complete game win against the Jackets.
Ozarks freshman pitcher Luke Dyer (Greenville, Texas / Greenville HS) tossed a complete game in an 11-2 upset win April 16 in game one of a double-header against No. 20 Texas-Tyler. Dyer did not issue a walk over seven innings and threw 61 strikes on 81 pitches. Dyer pitched four and one-third shutout innings before allowing a run.
Texas Dallas senior right-hander Aaron Bach (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire HS) pitched the Comets to a complete-game victory Thursday night as UTD opened a three-game series at McMurry with a 4-1 win. Bach scattered seven hits in the win as he struck out five and issued just one walk.
Texas-Tyler junior pitcher Cason Adams (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall HS) struck out seven and threw a complete-game shutout for the Patriots in their 5-0 series-opening win over Ozarks last Friday. Adams recorded his first complete-game shutout of the season and the third of his career for the Patriots. Making his 10th start of the season, Adams scattered six hits in a 95-pitch performance against the Eagles.
