AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

HITTER OF THE WEEK – Wesley Moss, Fr., OF, Sul Ross State
Freshman outfielder Wesley Moss (San Antonio, Texas / Brennan HS) was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle after Friday's 25-10 victory against McMurry. Moss was 15-of-22 for a .461 average and helped the Lobos post a 3-2 record. He drove in eight runs and scored eight more and stole four bases in four attempts. Moss had three doubles, one triple, a home run and recorded 24 total bases with a 1.045 slugging percentage.
CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Brady Taylor, Fr., RHP, Ozarks
Freshman pitcher Brady Taylor (Plano, Texas / Plano West HS) tossed a three-hit complete game shutout to lead Ozarks to a 1-0 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday in game one of a three-game series. Taylor allowed just five base runners and striking out three to earn his second win of the season. Taylor issued only one walk over seven innings and faced the minimum in the first, fourth, fifth and seventh innings. He improved to 2-1 on the mound.
CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Cason Adams, Jr., RHP, Texas-Tyler
Junior pitcher Cason Adams (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall HS) earned his third win of the season through seven innings against Texas Dallas in the series opener last Friday. Adams recorded six strikeouts and allowed no earned runs while giving up just three hits and holding UTD to a .136 batting average. Adams is now 3-1 on the season with 30 strikeouts and a 4.24 ERA through seven starts.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES AT THE PLATE
Belhaven junior outfielder Terrell Hodges (Brandon, Miss. / Holmes CC) hit two home runs, drove in six runs, had 11 hits and scored 10 times over the week for the Blazers. Hodges also stole three bases against Illinois Wesleyan and finished with five steals on the week. He currently leads the ASC with 15 steals on the year. Hodges is also fifth in the ASC in batting average and fourth in slugging percentage.
Concordia Texas sophomore outfielder Caleb Maddox (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch HS) recorded the second-best average for the Tornados this past week at the plate but shared a team-high five RBI with Gareth Hutton. Maddox had three hits and three RBI Monday to help the Tornados get past Spalding in extra innings.
East Texas Baptist senior outfielder Tyler Bates (Joshua, Texas / Alvarado HS) had two doubles, one triple, two home runs and accounted for 8-of-24 Tiger runs scored over five games last week. Bates hit two home runs in the first game of the double header against Texas Dallas for four RBI. He later had another four RBI in the first game against Hardin-Simmons. In the 10-4 win over HSU in game three he had two hits, a double and a triple, scoring both times. Bates hit in all five games with two or more hits in three games and scored in four games. He hit .450 with a .950 slugging percentage, had 33 total bases and produced a .542 on-base percentage. Bates currently leads the nation with nine home runs.
Hardin-Simmons senior third baseman Caleb Jacques (Abilene, Texas / Cooper HS) scored four runs and drove in three from his No. 9 position in the batting order. Jacques scored at least one run and one RBI in all three games. He also had a walk, two sacrifice bunts and was hit by a pitch and had eight assists at third base in the series.
Howard Payne senior shortstop Brandon Garrett (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs HS) was 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts against Denison.
Mary Hardin-Baylor senior outfielder Will Stafford (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch HS) had multiple hit games in all three contests against Ozarks. He batted .700 for the week, scored three runs and drove in another. His double in the bottom of the sixth put him in position to tie the game in the Cru's only loss of the week. He also had two outfield assists, throwing out a pair of Ozarks runners in key situations from right field.
Texas Dallas senior first baseman Nick Marti (Spring, Texas / Spring HS) hit .450 as the Comets posted a 3-2 record in ASC play last week. Marti was 9-for-20 from the plate with four doubles and a home run in a pair of games at East Texas Baptist and a three-game home series with No. 18/20 Texas-Tyler. Marti hit safely in all five games, extending his hitting streak to eight contests, and was 4-for-5 with three runs scored in the series finale with UT-Tyler.
Texas-Tyler sophomore infielder Alex Bishop (Calgary, Alberta, Canada / Vauxhall Academy) hit three home runs and had nine hits to lead the Patriots to a 3-1 record last week. Bishop was 9-for-15 at the plate for a .545 average with two doubles, six RBI and scored 10 runs. For the season Bishop is hitting .392, has 31 hits, 12 doubles, a triple and a team-leading three home runs. Bishop also has 23 RBI and a .500 on-base percentage.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES ON THE MOUND
Belhaven junior pitcher Shane Brown (Braxton, Miss. / Copiah-Lincoln CC) pitched a complete game over Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday, allowing six hits, two walks and two unearned runs with six strikeouts on 111 pitches for his first win as a Blazer. He allowed one double in the contest as the Blazers defeated the Titans 7-2.
Concordia Texas junior pitcher Lane Hobbs (Thrall, Texas / Temple JC) went six and 1/3 innings on the mound in the 13-0 shutout of Concordia-Chicago. Hobbs had four strike outs, one walk and gave up just five hits in the shutout win. Hobbs improved his overall record to 5-0 on the season. His 0.23 ERA and 51 strike outs in 38.1 innings lead the ASC.
East Texas Baptist freshman pitcher Cody Pierce (Kennard, Texas / Kennard HS) earned a win over Hardin-Simmons in the final game of the series going 5.2 innings with two strikeouts. He gave up three earned runs and only one extra base hit.
Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore pitcher Casey Frazier (Salado, Texas / Salado HS) scattered seven hits and allowed just one run in a 4-3 victory over Ozarks. He struck out three batters and had no walks in picking up his first win of the season.
