ASC Announces Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams

RICHARDSON, Texas – Texas-Tyler junior Michelle Obach and Howard Payne senior Danyel Bradley were named the East and West Division Players of the Year the league office announced in conjunction with the release of the 2016 American Southwest Conference Women's Basketball All-Conference teams on Tuesday (March 1), following a vote of the league's head coaches.
A two-time all-conference selection, Obach finished the regular season as one of the league’s premier shooters. Ranked in the top five in six conference categories, Obach led the ASC in three-point field goal percentage (.466), ranked third in scoring (17.8), tied for third in assists (3.8), fourth in field goal percentage (.461) and ranked fifth in three-point field goals (61) and free throw percentage (.773).
Bradley, who received her second consecutive ASC Player of the Year award, was also named the West Division Defensive Player of the Year. A three-time all-conference selection, Bradley was one of two conference players to record more than 500 points this season (536) and ranked second in the ASC in scoring (19.9). Bradley led the league in assists (113) and steals (85) and ranked second in field goal percentage (.496).
Obach and Bradley, who were selected to their respective all-division first team, were also named to the prestigious ASC All-Conference Team. They are joined by LeTourneau junior Crystal Jones, Mary Hardin-Baylor junior Jonelle Smith and Texas-Tyler junior Makenzi May.
In the East Division, Rometta Lombard of Louisiana College was named Freshman of the Year. Starting 23 games, Lombard shot .343 from the field and from three-point range. Jones received dual honors as an all-conference selection and Newcomer of the Year. Jones led the ASC in scoring (562) and was the only player in the conference to average more than 20 points per game (20.8). LeTourneau senior Ashley Stephens received Defensive Player of the Year honors and ranked third in rebounds (229) and blocks (50). Texas Dallas senior Jasmine Lopez was named Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year and Texas-Tyler Coach Kendra Hassell received Coach of the Year honors. Hassell led the Patriots to a 15-0 conference record and the East Division title.
In the West Division, Kenya Miles of Sul Ross State was named Freshman of the Year. Miles led all ASC freshman in scoring (12.2) and steals (2.5). Concordia Texas sophomore Jaela Dejean received Newcomer of the Year honors. Dejean ranked 11th in the ASC in steals (1.8) and 16th in scoring (13.2). Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore Haven Neal was named Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year and Howard Payne Coach Meia Daniels received Coach of the Year honors. Daniels led HPU to a 10-4 conference record and the West Division title.
