HITTER OF THE WEEKRyan Almager, 1B, So., Sul Ross State
Sophomore first baseman Ryan Almager (Lubbock, Texas / Monterey HS) clubbed three home runs and a double to lead the Lobos to a 3-0 series sweep over Schreiner. Almager went 7-for-12 at the plate for a .583 average and had six RBI.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEKEly Gallego, RHP, Sr., Sul Ross State
Senior pitcher Ely Gallego (Alpine, Texas /Alpine HS) threw a complete game victory while striking out 11 Schreiner batters as the Lobos claimed a 2-0 win over the Mountaineers in the first of a Saturday twin bill. Gallego gave up three hits and yielded a walk but held the Mountaineers to a .125 batting average.

OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES AT THE PLATE
 
East Texas Baptist junior infielder Zach Compton (Pflugerville, Texas / Pflugerville HS) led the team with six hits in three games in the season opening series against Chapman in California. Compton recorded two doubles and had a hit in every game. In the final game of the series he was 3-of-5 with two RBI and a double. In the series he had a .533 on-base percentage. In game three, Compton hit a two-run double to put ETBU up 7-4 giving a three-run cushion in the game.
 
LeTourneau junior infielder Aaron Perkins (The Woodlands, Texas / Panola JC) hit a team best .571 in the three-game series against Arlington Baptist. Perkins had a hit in each of the games including two in the series finale. He also scored four runs and walked twice as LETU went 1-2 to begin the 2016 season.
 
Texas-Tyler freshman catcher/designated hitter Kelly Dorsett (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall HS) made his first collegiate game and weekend a memorable one by going 3-for-3 with a home run and a double in his first start of the season. He then had an RBI single and two walks in the series finale to help lead the Patriots to a season-opening sweep of the University of Dallas. Dorsett finished the weekend 4-for-6 at the plate with a double, home run, four walks and six RBI over two games played. He started the second game of the series at catcher and then moved to the designated hitter spot in the lineup in the finale. His production helped to lead the Patriots to a three-game sweep where they outscored their opponent 39-11.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES ON THE MOUND
 
East Texas Baptist senior pitcher Jimmy Russo (Kingwood, Texas / Kingwood Park HS) was clutch in two relieve situations in game one and game three of the Chapman series. In game one, Russo took the mound in the seventh inning with no outs and the bases loaded. Facing four batters, he gave up one hit and three ground outs to record the save. In the final game, he came on in the eighth inning and struck out the first batter for the first out with the bases loaded. Next batter hit into a fielder's choice, a single, and groundout to end the inning up 15-12. In the ninth, Russo did not allow a run with two strikeouts, a pop out and one hit. The final two outs were a ground out and a strikeout. He had three strikeouts in game three and one in game one for four total strikeouts.
 
Texas-Tyler junior pitcher Cason Adams (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall HS) recorded a complete-game victory in the season-opener last Saturday over University of Dallas. Adams struck out seven and allowed only one earned run in a 2-1 win. Adams limited UD to a .167 batting average and gave up his only run on a solo home run. After the run, Adams shut the door on UD batters allowing only one more hit and no walks to lead the Patriots to the win.
