Mike Midkiff Receives ASC Outstanding Media Service Award
9/8/2015 11:04:18 AM
Award Interview
RICHARDSON, Texas
– The voice of East Texas Baptist University athletics,
Mike Midkiff
, was recognized by the Sports Information Directors of the American Southwest Conference as its Outstanding Media Service Award Recipient for the 2014-15 academic year. Midkiff was honored Saturday (Sept. 5) at halftime of the McMurry University football game.
“I’m very honored,” said Midkiff. “I love college sports and to now be a part of such a prestigious list including former ETBU radio announcer Charlie Chitwood, who was my predecessor, it’s a very special thing for me.”
Midkiff has been broadcasting East Texas Baptist athletic events since 2010 and has brought many great moments to the Tiger fans. During his time in the booth Midkiff has been the voice for several key sports memories for ETBU. One notable event was the win in the 2014 NCAA Division III Softball Super Regional on a walk-off three-run home run over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to send the Tigers to the NCAA Division III Finals. Mike also traveled to Wisconsin for the 2015 NCAA tournament with the men’s basketball team. He put together several quick video features on Facebook promoting the Sectionals and Sectional Finals for ETBU.
“Mike has done so much for ETBU athletics promoting the Tigers and the ASC since he started broadcasting in 2010," said ETBU Sports Information Director Adam Ledyard. "He loves the Tigers and sports and has a God-given gift in broadcasting. We are blessed to have him be our broadcaster helping us promote ETBU athletics.”
Along with broadcasting, Mike has a blog on the Marshall News Messenger that helps promote ETBU athletics in the community. He was recently awarded a top-three blog spot finish in Texas in the AP category for small newspapers. Along with the blog and broadcasting, last year Mike hosted our weekly ETBU Extra Coach’s Show.
The ASC Outstanding Media Service Award has been presented annually since 2003 to recognize outstanding coverage of a member institution, the conference as a whole and NCAA Division III athletics. The award is voted on by ASC Sports Information Directors.
