DALLAS, Texas
– The American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual meeting Monday (Sept. 28) at the DoubleTree by Hilton in North Dallas. Each of the ASC's 13 member institutions was represented with student-athletes and advisors.
Belhaven University, in its first year as a conference member, attended its first SAAC meeting.
Among the topics discussed by student-athlete representatives and advisors was relocating the annual SAAC meeting to a campus site and extending the meeting over two-days. Other topics discussed were recruitment, eligibility, playing seasons and possible community outreach programs. Each school's SAAC group presented a review of their Division III Week from last season and discussed topics for the upcoming season.
ASC Commissioner Amy Carlton provided notes from the national level about current and upcoming legislation concerning student-athletes. The guest speaker was Monica Miller from the NCAA. Miller disucssed the new NCAA program "After the Game" which focuses on former NCAA student-athletes who are making positive impacts across the globe on a daily basis with many crediting their success to their student-athlete academic and athletic experiences.
