TYLER, Texas -- Texas-Tyler softball head coach Mike Reed and his staff have been named the West Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, it was announced today (June 10).
Reed, who helped start the Patriots' program in 2004, put together a historic season in 2015, going 50-5 overall and finishing the year as the NCAA Division III national runner-up. Texas-Tyler became just the third school in NCAA Division III history to notch 50 wins in a season, one win shy of the all-time record of 51.
Assistant coaches Whitney Wyly, Michelle Jones, Coby Gipson and Christy Gipson helped lead the Patriots to the American Southwest Conference regular-season title and the league championship. Texas-Tyler claimed the NCAA Division III Regional and Super Regional titles to advance to the national tournament finals in Salem, Va.
