AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

HITTER OF THE WEEK – Buddy McCoy, OF, Sr., Texas-Tyler
Senior outfielder Buddy McCoy (Haughton, La./Haughton HS) opened the season with a .385 average over three games going 6-of-15 at the plate with a home run, two doubles, eight RBI and three runs scored. McCoy also led the team in slugging percentage with a .769 mark through three games.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Ryan Todd, RHP, So., Sul Ross State
Sophomore pitcher Ryan Todd (Holliday, Texas/Holliday HS) earned a save and a victory in his first two appearances in a Sul Ross State uniform. Todd pitched a perfect ninth inning in relief of Eli Gallego as the Lobos defeated Univ. of Dallas (3-0) in the second game of a doubleheader on opening day. Todd started, pitched five innings and allowed a single earned run in a 17-6 win at Schreiner Saturday. He left the game with a 12-2 lead to allow the bullpen to get some work as starters pitched all but 1.1 innings in the first four games. Todd did not walk a batter in either appearance.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES AT THE PLATE
Concordia Texas freshman outfielder Michael Evan (Cameron, Texas/Yoe HS) provided the power to guide the Tornados to a 3-1 record in the opening weekend. Evan hit .308 (4-for-13) with a triple, a homer and four RBI. Evan hit a solo home run in the sixth inning against Centenary on Saturday, which proved to be difference in Concordia's 4-3 victory. Evan also went 2-for-3 with a triple, scored a run and drove in a run in the Tornados' come-from-behind 6-4 win over No. 29 George Fox on Sunday.
East Texas Baptist junior designated hitter Josh Warbington (Hallsville, Texas/Hallsville HS) hit a walk-off three-run home run to end the series against Chapman for a 10-9 win on Saturday. It was his third at-bat of the year and second of the game and is ETBU's first home run of the year. Warbington turned on the first-pitch and put it over the left field fence for the win. He scored twice in the 10-9 win in game three of the series and pinch hit in game two.
Ozarks sophomore short stop Andrew Beck (Conway, Ark./St. Joseph HS) went 5-for-9 with two RBI and two steals over two games against Rhodes College. Beck also collected three hits in game one of the series.
Sul Ross State senior outfielder Shane Sawyer (Midland, Texas/Midland HS) led the Lobos in hitting, hits and doubles during their first five games. Sawyer had eight hits in a three-game series at Schreiner last weekend. He went 3-for-4 in the opener of Saturday's doubleheader and 3-for-7 in the nightcap to lead a 21-hit attack as the Lobos won 17-6. Sawyer scored once during a two-run rally in the fifth inning against Univ. of Dallas opening day to help lead the Lobos to their first win of the season.
Texas Dallas junior outfielder Haden Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas/Birdville HS) went 4-for-9 at the plate in three games at the Arizona Desert Classic over the weekend. Johnson was 2-for-4 with two RBI in the Comets' first of two games with Pacific Lutheran on Saturday. He then went 1-for-2 with an RBI in the nightcap with Pacific Lutheran and 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's loss to No. 4 Linfield.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES ON THE MOUND
Concordia Texas junior pitcher Dillon Stavinoha (Rosenberg, Texas/Terry HS) came on in relief to pitch four scoreless innings and help the Tornados to a 6-4 win over No. 29 George Fox on Sunday. The left-hander allowed only two hits and struck out one to pick up his first win of the season.
East Texas Baptist senior pitcher Kirby Moore (Minden, La./Minden HS) pitched the final two innings against Chapman in game three of the series for the first win of the year. Moore did not allow a run after Chapman scored nine in the first seven innings. He shut down an offense that had scored 23 runs in the previous 25 innings.
Ozarks sophomore pitcher Keaton Ramsey (Sheridan, Ark./Sheridan HS) appeared in relief against Rhodes College and recorded 3.2 innings without giving up an earned run to receive the win.
