RICHARDSON, Texas - University of Texas at Dallas junior Joseph Weber has been appointed to represent the student-athletes of the 21 American Southwest Conference and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member institutions on the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Weber's appointment to the Division III national SAAC is effective immediately and he will take part in committee activities and discussions at the NCAA Convention in San Antonio, January 13-17. His term continues through the close of the January 2018 convention.

"I'm looking forward to this opportunity to represent the ASC as well as the SCAC with the Division III SAAC," Weber said. "This is a great honor."

A native of Frisco, Texas (Heritage HS), Weber has been active on the UT Dallas SAAC since his arrival on campus as a transfer student in fall 2014. A business management major, Weber currently serves as social media coordinator for the UTD SAAC. Starting goalkeeper with the men's soccer program, Weber has played for the Comets for two seasons, twice earning All-ASC honors and seven times cited as ASC Defensive Player of the Week.

"SCAC Commissioner (Dwayne) Hanberry and I look forward to Joe engaging with all of our student-athletes as Division III enters important discussions on issues with direct impact on students attending and looking to attend our institutions," Amy Carlton, ASC commissioner, said.

"It is also exciting for Joe to begin his term with the Division III SAAC during the San Antonio convention where he will be joined by several ASC and SCAC student-athletes who will also be attending the event," Carlton said.

The NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee celebrates its 27th year and Division III-only SAAC its 18th year during 2015-16. Division III was the first to have students from the SAAC serve as voting members of the Management Council, the second-highest governance group in the Division. The Division III SAAC is comprised of 23 student-athletes each representing two conferences. Weber follows Jose Perez from Southwestern University as the ASC-SCAC representative.

Nine persons from the ASC and SCAC have now served as a national SAAC representative. Two former ASC-SCAC representatives -- Dalaine Whitlock (Concordia University Texas) and Brooks Royer (Rhodes College) -- each served as student appointees to the Division III Management Council during their terms with Division III SAAC.
