RICHARDSON, Texas – The 2015 American Southwest Conference Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships are set to run Saturday (Oct. 31) in Tyler, Texas on the campus of the University of Texas at Tyler.

The 2015 ASC Cross Country Championships are the first event in the fall season of the 20th anniversary of the American Southwest Conference.

UPDATED START TIMES!! The men’s 8k race has been delayed by rain to a 9:30 a.m. start with the women’s 6k run slated for approximately 10:15 a.m. following the completion of the men’s race. The awards ceremony will begin approximately 30 minutes after the last race.

The Texas-Tyler men’s team recorded five top-10 team scores including two first-place finishes this fall. The Patriots have won the last five consecutive ASC Championships and nine out of the last 10. Texas-Tyler returns four runners from last year’s team that placed in the top-10 led by defending medalist runner Conner Benson. A two-time ASC Runner of the Week, Benson could potentially become the fifth men’s runner in conference history to claim a second medalist award at the ASC Championship. Benson has two top-five times this fall including a win at the King Campbell Spectacular and will look to become the sixth consecutive Texas-Tyler runner to claim the individual medalist award.

The Texas-Tyler women’s team finished in the top five in six events and recorded four first-place finishes this fall. The Patriots return four runners from last year’s team that placed in the top-10 led by Brittany Brunson who came in third. A three time ASC Runner of the Week, Brunson placed in the top-10 in four events claiming two medalist honors. A sixth-place finish in 2013 and a third-place mark in 2014, Brunson will look to become the third consecutive Patriot runner to claim medalist honors following Carly Kitts (2014, 2014).

In what should be a competitive meet, both the men’s and women’s events return several top-10 runners from the 2014 ASC Championship.

In the men’s 8k race, in addition to Conner Benson, Texas-Tyler returns Matthew Markert, Gerardo Viera and Andrew Hernandez. Landon Price from East Texas Baptist, Clay Smith from Hardin-Simmons, Eddy Jasso and Riley Zoch from Concordia Texas round out the top-10.

In the women’s 6k race, nine of the top-10 runners return for another shot at the title. Following Brunson, Texas-Tyler returns Krista Painter, Rachel Willis and Paige Maly. Texas Dallas, who finished as the Runner-Up, returns four runners from the top-10 led by former ASC Freshman of the Year, Lindsey Rayborn.
