RICHARDSON, Texas – The No. 1 seed and regular season champion Texas-Dallas advanced to the semifinals with an 80-65 win over No. 8 East Texas Baptist.

Senior forward Dmitry Chernikov led a group of five Comets to score in double figures. Chernikov scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season. Junior forwards Chris McOmber and Matthew Medell added 19 and 12 points, respectively. Senior guard Ryan Smith recorded all 12 of his points from behind the arc knocking down 4-of-7 three-point shots.

With the win Texas-Dallas moves on to the semifinal round to face No. 5 Texas-Tyler. Tip time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Sophomore center Jamil Samuel posted his fourth double-double of the season with a team-best 19 points and game-high 15 rebounds.
