CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK: She’Cara Humphrey, Sr., F, Texas-Tyler
Forward She’Cara Humphrey (Pittsburg, Texas/Pittsburg HS) led the Patriots in wins over Concordia Texas and Mary Hardin-Baylor scoring 23 points in each game. Texas-Tyler's fifth-leading scorer of all-time jumped into the 1,000-point club with her 23-point performance on Thursday against Concordia. The win Saturday combined with the loss of Texas-Dallas gave the Patriots the 2013-14 American Southwest Conference regular-season title. The win also extended the program wins-record with 20 overall wins with two games still left to play this season.
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Danyel Bradley, So., G, Howard Payne
Guard Danyel Bradley (DeSoto, Texas/Bishop Lynch HS) was a perfect 7-of-7 from behind the arc and scored a career-high 34 points in a win over Louisiana College. Bradley is the first player in league history to knock down a perfect 7-of-7 from three-point distance in a single game. The win placed the Lady Jackets ahead of LC in the conference standings with two games left in the regular season. In her career-high performance, she was also 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. The league's leading scorer, Bradley was 9-of-12 (.750) from the field against LC and pulled down eight rebounds from the point guard position.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES
East Texas Baptist senior forward Jasmine Davis recorded a career-high six blocks against Texas-Dallas. It was the 13th game this semester that she has scored 10 or more points. Davis also shot 70 percent (7-of-10) against the Comets from floor.
Hardin-Simmons junior guard Joanna Daniel had a career-high game in a must win against East Texas Baptist on Saturday. She had 23 points and seven assists and hit 6-of-8 from three-point range. She leads the ASC in three-point shooting percentage (.459). She averaged 15 points and 6.5 assists for the week and hit 8-of-13 from three-point distance.
LeTourneau senior guard Ashley Fajardo was a key factor in the team’s 2-0 record last week. The YellowJackets picked up road wins over Hardin-Simmons (68-66) and Texas-Dallas (62-61). In the program's first win in Abilene, Fajardo had nine points on the strength of 3-of-12 shooting from the field and had two rebounds and an assist in the win over the Cowgirls. In the win over the Comets, she shared in team-high honors with 13 points. Her biggest points were the two she scored on the game-winning layup with four seconds to go. She also handed out two assists including one in the middle of a 9-0 run for the YellowJackets. Fajardo also had a layup with 28 seconds to go that put LeTourneau up 60-59.
Louisiana College junior guard Neka Jones averaged 17 points during the week to lead the Lady Wildcats. Her six three-pointers made during the week kept her atop the ASC in total number of three-pointers made with 67. That number also places her in the top 10 nationally.
Mississippi College senior forward Dominique Walker scored in double-figures in both games, recording 11 points against Howard Payne and 12 points in a win over Sul Ross State. She tallied 18 rebounds against Sul Ross, which is the most by a Lady Choctaw since 2007.
Ozarks sophomore guard Ashley Hipps saved her best for last as she dribbled the entire length of the floor and made the game-winning layup with less than four seconds remaining to push the Lady Eagles to a thrilling 56-53 win over Concordia Texas on Saturday. With the shot, Ozarks remains in the thick of the playoff race. Hipps averaged six assists during the week.
Sul Ross State freshman guard Reilly Junge led the Lobos in both scoring and rebounding in their final two home games of the season. Junge made 6-of-10 free-throws to also lead the Lobos in that category.
Texas-Dallas junior guard Joanna Davis averaged 20.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game off the bench for the Comets in a 1-1 week at home. Davis opened the week with a career-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting with five rebounds and a pair of steals in a win over East Texas Baptist. Against the Tigers, she was 3-of-5 from three-point range. In Saturday's home loss to LeTourneau, Davis finished with 17 points and eight rebounds, going 6-of-6 from the foul line.
