ASC Announces 2014 Fall Team Sportsmanship Awards

RICHARDSON, Texas – Three American Southwest Conference members were selected as recipients of the 2014 fall Team Sportsmanship Awards by vote of the 12 ASC Student Athlete Advisory Committees the conference office announced, Monday (Nov. 24).

The award, in its eighth academic year, honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) from each of the conference's 12 member institutions vote on the recipients.

Louisiana College recorded its best fall with three Sportsmanship Team awards. The Wildcats’ football team and women’s soccer team received their first team awards and the men’s soccer team recorded their fourth with three coming in the last five years. East Texas Baptist swept the men’s and women’s cross country team awards with the Tiger women taking home their second consecutive award. The LeTourneau volleyball team received their second award and first since the inaugural award in the fall of 2007.

The next ASC SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards will be named after the 2014-15 basketball season.
