#4 Mary Hardin-Baylor 34, Kean 7
UNION, N.J. — No. 4 Mary Hardin-Baylor shook off a sluggish first half to dominate the second half as the Cru rolled to a 34-7 road victory over Kean Saturday (Sept. 14).

The Cru (2-0) drew first blood when Drew Owen nailed a 41-yard field goal on UMHB's opening possession to make it 3-0 with 9:39 remaining in the first quarter. Both defenses took over from there and it would stay 3-0 into halftime. The Cru broke things open in the second half. Reserve quarterback Zach Anderson engineered an 11-play, 75-yard drive and capped it with a four-yard scoring run to make it 10-0 UMHB with 11:40 left in the third quarter. Brodrick Crain intercepted a Kean pass to set up the Cru's next possession at the Cougar 20-yard line. Anderson found Elijah Hudson with a 20-yard scoring strike on the next play to make it 17-0 UMHB.

The Cougars only scoring would come when Damian Corredor returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 17-7. Anderson would find Kamray Runnels with a four-yard TD toss on the next drive to give the Cru a 24-7 edge. Anderson added a seven-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Murphy midway through the fourth quarter and Owen kicked a 35-yard field goal to close out the scoring.

East Texas Baptist 52, Austin College 34
SHERMAN, Texas --- A brand new way of playing East Texas Baptist football was introduced in Sherman, Texas, with a season opening 52-34 win over Austin College (0-2). The Tigers led from the beginning to the end scoring the most points in a season opener breaking the record of 49 points (2001) and giving Joshua Eargle his first win in his first game as a head coach.

It didn’t take long for the ETBU (1-0) offense to score in the first quarter as John Gable trotted in from five yards out with 7:49 on the clock and then converted a two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.  Austin College answered back in just 43 seconds to pull within two missing their extra point but just under three minutes later Toi Glovier scored his first of three touchdowns on the day on a three-yard run and 4:31 on the clock.  Just before the half ended, Austin College’s Madison Ross caught a 13-yard pass as they cut the lead to three, 16-13.

ETBU’s Chris Frazier collected a touchdown on an eight-yard pass from Brooks Holder with 9:49 in the second quarter extending the lead to 10, 23-13, but Austin College bounced back with 4:04 left in the half to trim the Tigers’ lead to three, 23-20, at the half.

Scoring twice in the third quarter on a 36-yard pass from Holder to Jamaine Sherman and a two-yard pass to Glovier put ETBU 36-27 with 5:02 to go.  ETBU would take a 45-27 lead in the fourth on a one-yard Glovier run and a 32-yard field goal from Cory McNeil.  With 5:13 left Austin College scored their first points in the quarter to pull within 11, 45-34, only to see Roy Butler make it 52-34 on a 31-yard pass from Holder with 1:24 left to play.

ETBU finished with 611 yards of total offense which was just nine yards shy of breaking the team’s single game record set in 2003. Holder debuted at quarterback and threw for 316 yards completing 31 passes of 40 attempts. Sherman and Glover produced career days with big plays all day.  Sherman hauled in 12 passes for 175 yards which both put him in the top three for single game records.  His 12 catches list second all-time in a game while his 175 yards receiving is third all-time.  Glovier pushed through for 153 yards rushing on 29 carries for a career high. Dylan Benge recorded six tackles to lead East Texas Baptist while Drew Benge and Romeo Botelua each picked off a pass.

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College had trouble holding onto the ball and visiting Huntingdon capitalized on the turnovers to post a 35-7 win over the Choctaws on Saturday night (Sept. 14).

The Choctaws, who dropped their second straight game, had seven fumbles in the game, four of which were turned over to Huntingdon who turned three of those fumbles into touchdowns.

Senior Doc Ward made his season debut after missing the "Backyard Brawl" and led the Choctaws with 10 tackles, including seven solo stops.

Howard Payne 41, Southwest Assemblies of God U. 27
WAXAHACHIE, Texas - The Howard Payne University offense got three third quarter touchdowns to take over the lead for good, and the Yellow Jackets (1-1) went on to post a 41-27 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University Saturday evening in non-conference football action (Sept. 14).

After finding themselves down 17-10 at the half, the Jackets put the offense together recording three third quarter touchdowns. With only eight first downs at halftime, Howard Payne had 21 in the second half to finish with 29 for the game.

Howard Payne recorded 510 yards of total offense sparked by Richard Young's 230 yards on 17 of 29 passing. Young finished the game throwing five touchdowns, three to receiver Colby Mica totaling 89 yards.

Louisiana College 16, Webber International 12
PINEVILLE, La. - For the Louisiana College Wildcats, their second game of the 2013 season saw them best Webber International in virtually every statistical category except three – turnovers, penalties and, until the game's final minute, the score.

Senior running back Reggie Sims bulled in from the two-yard line with 29 seconds left in the game to give Louisiana College (2-0) a come-from behind 16-12 victory over Webber International (1-2) in a game where mistakes haunted the Wildcats. LC committed 12 penalties for 171 yards, lost two fumbles and threw three interceptions.

Sims' deciding score was the only offensive touchdown in the game that saw Webber with a bend-but-don't-break approach that yielded a combined 468 yards, while LC's defense would hold the Warriors' offense to just 177 yards.

Despite their struggles on offense, the Wildcats took a 9-6 lead with 4:59 left in the third quarter on a 26-yard field goal from Adan Olivares – one of three field goals on the day for Olivares that included a school record 49-yard kick as the first half came to an end.

In the fourth quarter, Louisiana College missed a chance to solidify its lead when a 14-play, 76-yard drive ended with Ryan Montague fumbling the ball into the end zone for a touchback. It was a rare fumble for the senior who finished with 58 yards on 15 carries.

On LC's next drive, freshman quarterback Easton Melancon, who came into the game in relief of the struggling Alonzo Bellamy late in the second quarter, made his only mistake of the game when his pass was intercepted by WIU’s Daniel Booth and taken for a 65-yard touchdown putting Webber back into the lead, 12-9, with 11:24 remaining. The Wildcats had the chance to tie the game on their next drive, but Olivares missed his only field goal attempt of the day in four tries with 8:26 left in the fourth quarter.

The LC defense came back and shut down Webber's next drive in six plays to give the Wildcats’ offense one final chance with 4:52 to play. Melancon quickly got the Cats on the move. A completion to freshman Sheddrick Davis for 16 yards would put LC at the Webber 47. An incomplete pass on the next play left LC facing fourth down and 20 yards on the WIU 36. Melancon found Kyle Galyon open for a 22-yard reception and first down to the Webber 14-yard line. Four plays later, Sims blasted in for the winnings score.

Melancon finished with 230 yards on 16-for-37 passing. Bellamy was 8-of-16 for 47 yards, but lost one fumble and threw two interceptions. Webber International quarterback Cameron Joseph finished 7-for-20 for 98 yards and found himself sacked four times by the LC defense.

Defensively, the Wildcats were led by junior Preston Thibeaux's eight tackles that included one sack. Dominic Graham had 6.5 tackles, Joey Jarreau had six tackles and one sack, and Grayson Pylant collected six tackles.
