Texas-Tyler and
Texas Lutheran were all named winners of American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Team Sportsmanship Awards for 2013 spring sports, the conference office announced on Monday (May 20).
The award, in its sixth academic year, honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAACs) from the conference’s 14 member institutions vote on the recipients.
Schreiner (West Division) and LeTourneau (East Division) were team sportsmanship winners in baseball, while Sul Ross State (West) and Louisiana College (East) took the honor in softball. In golf, Mary Hardin-Baylor’s men’s team and Texas Lutheran’s women’s squad were selected. On the tennis courts, Schreiner swept both the men’s and women’s West awards. The Texas-Tyler men and LeTourneau women were named top sportsmanship teams on the East side. For track and field, it was the Hardin-Simmons men’s team and Mississippi College women’s squad that were honored.
The next ASC SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards will be named after the 2013 fall season.
