RICHARDSON, TX – The championship round of the 2013 American Southwest Conference Baseball Championship Tournament Series will be held Friday-Sunday (May 3-5) at Irwin Field on the campus of The University of Texas at Tyler in Tyler, Texas.
Playing for the conference championship and an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship along with host and East Division champion Texas-Tyler (32-10) will be East runner-up Louisiana College (24-17); West Division champion Texas Lutheran (31-10); and two-time defending conference champion and West Division runner-up Concordia Texas (22-20).
Action in the double-elimination event gets going on Friday with a 3 p.m. first pitch between Texas Lutheran and Louisiana College. Texas-Tyler and Concordia Texas will battle at 7 p.m.
The losing teams from the first day will play an elimination game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a winner’s bracket tilt at 4 p.m. with a ticket to the title game on the line. The win-or-go-home semifinal is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The championship game will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, with an if-necessary contest starting 30 minutes after.
To advance to the double-elimination tournament, the four squads had to win best-of-three series last weekend against a team from the opposite division.
Texas-Tyler topped Hardin-Simmons 10-0 (7) and 11-10; Louisiana College outlasted Mary Hardin-Baylor 10-1, 2-4 and 5-3; Texas Lutheran beat East Texas Baptist 3-0 and 3-1; and Concordia Texas prevailed over Texas-Dallas 1-0 and 5-0. All four series winners defended their home fields.
Earning Most Outstanding Player awards from each first-round series were: Texas-Tyler junior outfielder Billy Lirely; Louisana College senior right-hander Seth Webster and senior outfielder Cole Bagbey; Texas Lutheran senior right-hander Jeff Spillane; and Concordia Texas senior right-hander Ryan Ullmann.

NOTES: Texas-Tyler is ranked No. 17 in both the American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Division III Poll and D3baseball.com Top 25 Poll, while Texas Lutheran is at No. 27 and receiving votes, respectively. . . . The West Division has produced 13 ASC titles (including Texas Lutheran in 2005-07; Concordia Texas also in 2002) compared to the East’s three (including Texas-Tyler in 2009-10). . . The host team of the ASC tournament has prevailed eight times in the 16 years of the event. . . . . Ullmann was an honoree. . . . Admission prices will be: $5 for adults (age 18 and older), $3 for children (age 6 through high school) and $3 for ASC students (with valid ID). Children under age 5 will not be charged.. Each ticket is a day-pass and will provide admission to all games on that day only. No complimentary pass lists will be accepted. . . .
