DALLAS, Texas – The American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual meeting Monday (Sept. 30) at the Double Tree by Hilton in north Dallas. Each of the ASC’s 12 member institutions was represented with student-athletes and advisors.

Student athlete representatives and advisors discussed and proposed topics ranging from player safety in athletic competition, emerging sports for women and community outreach programs. The SAAC group participated in team-building games and also joined together to discuss multiple roundtable topics, including structures of meetings on campus and ideas to generate higher attendance at sporting events. The student-athletes also voted on the ASC Championship T-shirt Design Challenge entries. The winner will be announced next week.

ASC/Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III National SAAC Representative Dalaine Whitlock provided notes from the national level, and the guest speaker was Aaron Weintraub. A former college baseball coach, Weintraub currently specializes as a mental skills coach and author. Weintraub spoke to the student athletes about leadership, setting an example and how to overcome obstacles.

“This was a great event for our student athletes this year,” ASC Assistant Commissioner Jimmy Glenn said. “It’s something every college student should be a part of. The SAAC is a voice for college students to be heard and make positive changes.”
