TYLER, TX-- The UT Tyler women's tennis team won their fifth straight American Southwest Conference Championship, with a 5-0 Sunday evening defeat of Texas-Dallas at the 2012 ASC Tennis Championships.  Senior Morgan Wilkins was named tournament MVP.

After waiting most of the day for the men's tournament to end, the Patriots wasted no time in putting the pressure on the Comets, winning the doubles competition 3-0.

Amy Friesenhahn and Sydni Hersmdorf won their No. 1 doubles showdown, 8-5, while teammates Jessica Blundell and Jennifer Payne won 8-4.  Ashley Albro and Wilkins finished off the doubles sweep, winning 8-2 over UT Dallas.

In singles action, Payne was the first Patriot to win her matchup, a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cindy Tiu of UTD.

Wilkins then ended the match with a dominating performance, winning 6-1, 6-1, to capture the title for the Patriots.

With their ASC crown, the Patriots earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Regional Tournament, the weekend of May 11-13.

Joining Wilkins on the All-tournament team were Albro, Payne and Blundell.
