Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor head men's basketball coach Ken DeWeese has been named one of ten finalists for the 2012 Glenn Robinson National Coach of the Year. That award is presented annually to the top NCAA Division III men's basketball coach in the country.
DeWeese guided the UMHB men to a 25-3 overall record during the 2011-12 season and the Cru posted the best regular season record in school history at 24-1. The UMHB men won the American Southwest Conference West Division with a 20-1 league record and advanced to the ASC Tournament semifinals before falling to eventual conference champion McMurry University. The Cru earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in the last six years.
DeWeese is joined on the list of finalists by the following coaches: Larry Anderson (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Jeff Brown (Middlebury College), David Hixon (Amherst College), Marcus Kahn (Cabrini College), Brian Lane (Transylvania University), Pat Miller (Wisconsin-Whitewater), Mitch Oliver (Albertus Magnus College), Matt Neil (Hope College) and Ken Scalmanini (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps).
The Glenn Robinson Award is named in honor of the head coach at Franklin and Marshall College. Robinson has won 805 games at F&M and has guided the Diplomats to 22 NCAA Division III National Championship appearances. This year's winner will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com banquet during the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans on March 30th.
