Ozarks' Young Named to Capital One Academic All-America® Team

Clarksville, Ark. -- University of the Ozarks guard April Young was named to the 2011-2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Women’s Basketball Second Team, it was announced by the College of Sports Information Directors of America Tuesday.
Young, a senior, received the honor after being voted to the Capital One All-District Team earlier this month. Only student-athletes named to their respective Academic All-District First Team become eligible for national Academic All-America® consideration. She is the only American Southwest Conference player on the national team.
The 5-foot-7 native of Deer, Ark., is the conference leader in three-point shots per game (2.4), while ranking tenth in scoring (14.0). She set the school record this season in career three-pointers (190), breaking the previous mark of 177 set by Erica Eneks (2004-2008). Young has scored 1,152 career points.
Young earned a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team her sophomore season and was voted to the Capital One Academic All-District Team her junior and senior year. She earned Second Team All-Conference last season and Honorable Mention All-Conference honors as a sophomore. She was named ASC Player of the Week Monday.
A biology major, Young is a three-time member of the ASC All-Academic Team. She was the ASC’s Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for women’s basketball last season.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution and be nominated by the sports information director.
