Temple, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team posted the two lowest rounds of the tournament and the Cru rolled to a 15-stroke victory at the UMHB Lady Cru Fall Invitational Tuesday afternoon.
The UMHB women posted a 322-321=643 team total to beat second-place Tyler Junior College's 331-327=658 by 15 shots. Texarkana Community College finished in third place with a 326-339=665 and Schreiner University was the closest NCAA Division III finisher to the Cru, taking fourth place with a 344-329=673. U.T.-Brownsville finished in fifth place at 344-330=674, Southwestern University was sixth with a 348-332=680, California Lutheran carded a 357-353=710 for seventh place, Texas Lutheran shot 372-359=731 for eighth place, Hardin-Simmons University posted a 371-377=748 for ninth place and McMurry University rounded out the field with a 396-376=772.
UMHB's Kelly Gonyea won the individual title, posting an 80-77=157 to best Tyler JC's Sarah Murray (81-78=159) by two strokes. Victoria Thane tied for fifth place individually after shooting 79-83=162, Taylor O'Rear (81-84) and Sara Eckert (88-77) both fired 165's for the Cru and tied for tenth place, Kristen Cain's 82-84=166 tied for 13th place and Allison Holly also cracked the top 20 for UMHB, tying for 18th place with an 86-83=169. Emily Santos carded a 90-86=176 for UMHB to tie for 28th place and Alexandra Taylor tied for 36th place after shooting 90-92=182.
The two-day, 36-hole event was played over a par-72, 5,820-yard layout at Wildflower Country Club in Temple. The Cru women will return to action with the Schreiner University Fall Classic. That tournament will be played October 17th and 18th in Kerrville.
