LONGVIEW, TX --- The LeTourneau University department of athletics has hired Peter Hantack as the head men's and women's tennis coach, the university announced Thursday.
Hantack comes to LeTourneau from Northwest Missouri State University, where he spent the past two seasons as the top assistant coach. During his tenure there, the Bearcats won back-to-back Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships in 2010 and 2011.
"I am excited to be a Yellowjacket and look forward to my new role as the head men's and women's tennis coach," Hantack said. "The school has so much to offer and I look forward to building a strong competitive team that will compete in the American Southwest Conference."
Hantack's experience also includes three summer sessions as the head pro at the Konsberg Tennisklubb in Konsberg, Norway.
Hantack played collegiate tennis at the University of Missouri at St. Louis, an NCAA Division II program. He still holds the school record for career singles victories with 64.
As a coach at LeTourneau, Hantack will take over the reins of two teams that just missed out on postseason bids. The LeTourneau women finished with an overall record of 10-9, one of their best seasons in recent memory.
"We are very excited to have someone of Peter's caliber join the LETU Athletic Department," LeTourneau athletic director Terri Deike said. "Not only did he compete in NCAA tennis as a student-athlete, but is currently employed as a tennis pro in Norway, so he brings a solid skill set to LETU tennis.
"We expect Peter's enthusiasm for tennis and students, coupled with his competitive nature to guide the men's and women's tennis teams to new heights."
Both YellowJacket teams finished 2-3 in ASC play. Both teams return their top players, Carlos Cantu and Sarah Case.
