RICHARDSON, Texas –– Concordia University Texas junior forward Shamika Singleton and Louisiana College senior forward Tillisha Givens have been named division players of the year to headline the 2011 American Southwest Conference Women’s Basketball All-Conference and All-Division selections, the ASC office announced on Wednesday (March 2), following a vote of the league’s 15 head coaches.

The 6-0 Singelton (Hemphill, TX / Lubbock Christian) earned the title of ASC West Division Player of the Year after averaging a division-high 16.7 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. She also shot 51.8 percent from the field and led the Tornados to six more conference wins than the previous season.

The 5-9 Givens (Monroe, LA / Ouachita Parish HS) earned the title of ASC East Division Player of the Year for the third straight season after averaging 16 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game. She also shot 52.6 percent from the field en route to leading the Lady Wildcats to the East Division title and a national ranking.

Singleton and Givens were both selected to their respective All-Division first team. Givens was also named to the prestigious five-player ASC All-Conference Team along with University of Texas at Dallas senior forward Tarneisha Scott (Jacksonville, AR / JHS), Mississippi College senior forward Jalessa Taylor (Ridgeland, MS / Jackson Academy), Hardin-Simmons University senior post Lindsey Newcombe (Keller, TX / KHS) and Howard Payne University junior point guard Brittany Roberson (Lone Star, TX / Temple College).

McMurry University freshman guard Keshia Collins (Midland, TX / MHS) doubled as ASC West Division defensive player of the year and freshman of the year after totaling 59 steals and averaging 10.5 points per game. Singleton also took top newcomer honors. Hardin-Simmons sophomore point guard Coco Cartwright (Shelbyville, TX / Normangee HS) was named ASC West Division Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. Howard Payne’s Joshua Prock was voted ASC West Division Coach of the Year after guiding the Lady Jackets to conference and division titles.

Mississippi College senior forward Jennifer Wair (Camden, MS / Meridian CC) was named ASC East Division Defensive Player of the Year after totaling 46 steals. University of Texas at Tyler post She’Cara Humphrey (Pittsburgh, TX / PHS) was named the top freshman in the East after averaging 5.8 points per game, while Louisiana College senior guard Kayla Guidry (Alexandria, LA / Texas-El Pase) took top newcomer honors after averaging 12.3 points and 2.1 steals. LeTourneau University junior guard LaQueda Davis (Houston, TX / Waltrip HS) and East Texas Baptist University senior guard Priscilla Galliguez (Waco, TX / Dulles HS) shared the title of ASC East Division Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. University of the Ozarks’ Carl Ramsey took East Division coach of the year honors after guiding the Lady Eagles to a berth in the ASC tournament for the first time since 2007.
