RICHARDSON, Texas –– Hardin-Simmons junior outside hitter Madison Reyes, Texas Lutheran sophomore outside hitter Vanecia Spencer and Texas-Dallas freshman middle blocker Taylour Toso took top individual honors to highlight the 2011 American Southwest Conference volleyball awards, the ASC office announced on Thursday (Nov. 10) after a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Reyes (Abilene, TX / AHS) was named ASC Most Valuable Player after leading the league with 3.84 kills per set and adding 45 service aces. She fueled the Cowgirls’ second straight ASC title and also took tournament MVP honors.
Spencer (Grandview, TX / Incarnate Word) was named ASC Newcomer of the Year after averaging 3.26 kills per set, while Toso (Helotes, TX / O’Connor HS) was named ASC Freshman of the Year after tallying 84 blocks and helping produce an East Division crown.
Reyes and Spencer were named to the ASC All-Conference First Team, while Toso was a second-team selection.
Concordia Texas senior outside hitter Kalynn White (Marion, TX / MHS) earned the title of ASC Volleyball Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.
McMurry’s Cammie Petree and Danielle Robarts took coaching staff of the year honors after guiding a West Division title, an appearance in the ASC title match and a program-record 28 wins.
