SEGUIN, TX -- Concordia Texas won its first American Southwest Conference women's cross country title, while McMurrry senior Alaisha Guerra claimed the individual title at the 2011 ASC Cross Country Championships on Saturday on the campus of Texas Lutheran University.

The Tornados, who had never finished higher than fifth entering the meet, accumulated 46 points to edge out runner-up Texas Lutheran by 11 to claim the crown. McMurry and Mississippi College rounded out the top four schools in the 13-team field.

Sophomores Megan Wagenaar and Caitlin Rowlette posted the highest individual finishes in program history, placing third and fourth in times of 24:05.93 and 24:24.50, respectively. Victoria Williams recorded a 10th-place finish in 25:02.29 and was closely followed by captain Joli Bula, who clocked in at 25:05.39. The seniors garnered All-ASC Second Team honors for their efforts. Rounding out the top-five finishers for the Tornados was Haley Phillips, who navigated the 6,000-meter course in 25:21.31.

Concordia will trek back to Texas Lutheran in two weeks to compete at the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Guerra ran a 6k time of 23:54.18 edging the second place finisher by more than four seconds. The win marks Guerra's first ASC title in her career. Carla Lewis won the ASC championship in 2009 and 2006. The first McMurry winner was Amanda Ward in the 2002 season. Guerra's first place finished earned her first team all-conference honors
