SAN ANTONIO – Led by individual champion Jacob Walsh, the UT Tyler men’s  team closed out the fall portions of its schedules with a championship at the Alamo City Classic played Monday and Tuesday at River Crossing Golf Course.

The first place finish marks the third team win for the No. 3-ranked Patriots' men in their five fall tournaments.  With a team score of 579 for the tournament, the Patriots’ men edged Trinity by three strokes for the title. Southwestern, Schreiner and Texas Lutheran rounded out the top five. 

The Patriots fired an impressive 5-under 283 in the opening round, with Walsh, Austin Quinten and John Dukes all shooting 71 or better. The Patriots shot a 296 on Tuesday to take home the title. In addition to the team’s first place finish, Walsh was the top individual with a 3-under 144 (69-72) for the tournament.

Three other Patriots finished in the top 10, as Quinten’s even par 144 (70-74) was good enough for third place. Dukes and Joey Ripple tied for seventh place, both firing a combined 3-over 147.

UT Tyler now thes rest of the semester off before resuming play in the spring.
