Spring SAAC Sportsmanship Awards Announced

RICHARDSON, Texas –– East Texas Baptist University, Hardin-Simmons University, LeTourneau University, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mississippi College, Sul Ross State University, University of Texas at Dallas and Texas Lutheran University are all winners of American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Team Sportsmanship Awards for 2010 spring sports, the conference office announced on Monday (May 24).

The award, in its third academic year, honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAACs) from the conference’s 15 member institutions vote on the recipients.

LeTourneau took the top team sportsmanship honor in women’s golf as well as East Division men’s and women’s tennis. It was the second straight award for the LETU women’s tennis team. Hardin-Simmons took the team award in West Division women’s tennis and was honored for the second consecutive time in West Division baseball and men’s track and field. Sul Ross State was the other institution to have multiple teams awarded, doing so in West Division softball and West Division men’s tennis. The SRSU men’s tennis team shared the sportsmanship award with Mary Hardin-Baylor. Texas-Dallas was the team winner in East Division baseball, Mississippi College was honored in men’s golf, East Texas Baptist was voted tops in East Division softball and Texas Lutheran was crowned in women’s track and field to round out the list.
