RICHARDSON, Texas –– Texas-Tyler, Louisiana College, East Texas Baptist, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Concordia Texas and Hardin-Simmons each finished in one of the top three spots in their respective divisions and will battle for the conference title at the double-elimination 2010 American Southwest Conference Softball Championship Tournament, to be held Thursday-Saturday (April 29-May1) for the first time at Railroad Park in Lewisville, Texas.

For the third straight year, all games in the double-elimination tournament will be available for fans through live statistics. Saturday’s championship game will again be broadcasted with live audio. All links can be found on the conference’s website.

Defending champion Texas-Tyler (35-5) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (25-15) each received first-round byes because of winning division titles and will wait until Friday to play. Head coach Mike Reed’s Patriots went 20-4 in divisional play to claim their first-ever ASC East title and enter the tournament on a 13-game winning streak. Head coach Kasey Blomquist’s Cru went 21-3 in conference play to hoist their third ASC West title in four seasons – fifth overall – and enter as winners of 17 of their last 20 ballgames.

Texas-Tyler will open at 11 a.m. on the Gold Field against Thursday’s 6 p.m. tilt between West Division No. 2 seed Concordia Texas (24-14) and East Division No. 3 seed East Texas Baptist (29-9), also taking place on the Gold Field.

UMHB will begin at 11 a.m. on the Blue Field against the victor of Thursday’s 6 p.m. game between East No. 2 seed Louisiana College (35-5) and West No. 3 seed Hardin-Simmons (24-11), also on the Blue Field.

Other start times will be at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday. The championship game is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday, with an “if necessary” game to follow 30 minutes after.

Returning all-tournament selections from 2009 are MVP Stacy Shepherd and Whitney Wyly of Texas-Tyler, Mary Alice Roy and Rene Schwartzenburg of Louisiana College, Ayrika Henderson and Alicia Wright of East Texas Baptist, and Cera Beasley and Amy Meyer of Hardin-Simmons.

NOTES: The East Division has won eight ASC titles, with the West claiming three. . . . East Texas Baptist and Mary Hardin-Baylor are tied for the most ASC tourney appearances with 11. ETBU has advanced a record 11 straight years and won the most titles with five. Texas-Tyler has the highest winning percentage (.727) at the annual event. . . This year’s tourney features three teams currently ranked in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 Poll: No. 1 Louisiana College, No. 2 East Texas Baptist and No. 5 Texas-Tyler. A new poll will be released on Wednesday. . . . Admission prices will be: $5 for adults (age 18 and older), $3 for children (age 6 through high school) and $3 for ASC students (with valid ID). Children under age 5 will not be charged. No complimentary passes will issued. . . . Gates will open 1:15 before the first pitch of the day. . . . No animals are allowed at the softball field area (a dog park is located near by). Also forbidden are coolers, glass bottles, alcohol and tobacco products. . . .
