CONCAN, TX - The Schreiner Women's Golf team won the first tournament title in the program's history by rallying from fourth place to first at the TLU Invitational at Concan Country Club on Tuesday.  The Mountaineers put themselves behind three other teams with a very disappointing first round but stepped up their games significantly in the second round, led by sophomore Sarah Stillwell who finished in third place individually.  The individual finish was the best in Stillwell's collegiate career to date as she shot 87-80 over the 5,808 yard Concan layout.

As a team, SU rallied strongly with a second day score of 340 to win by 17 shots after trailing by eight going into the final round.  LeTourneau, which was tied for second after the first round, stayed there with a 362 in the final round.  35th-ranked McMurry, which held the first round lead, shot 370 in the final round and finished third.  Host Texas Lutheran fell from a tie for second to fourth.  Texas A&M International finished fifth.

For the Mountaineers, who have only had an intercollegiate program for 3-1/2 years and didn't compete as a team at the ASC Championships until last spring, this is just the latest accomplishment for a team that continues to improve.  Junior Liz Calderon and senior Surraya Minhas each contributed 86's in the second round, followed by an 88 and 95 by freshmen Gabby Rosales and Katlynd Imbody respectively.  LeTourneau's Leslie Lee won the individual title with her two round score of 164.

It didn't look good for Schreiner after a very-out-of-character first round score of 376.  In the final round, a very different team took to the course and easily had the tournament's best round to rebound for the title.  The Mountaineers are now off until just before Easter when the team plays a match against defending ASC Champion UT-Tyler at the Apple Rock course at the Horseshoe Bay Resort in Marble Falls, the site of the 2010 ASC Championship tournament.
