RICHARDSON, Texas –– Concordia Texas, East Texas Baptist, Hardin-Simmons, Mississippi College, Ozarks and Texas-Tyler are all winners of American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Team Sportsmanship Awards for 2010 fall sports, the conference office announced on Tuesday (Nov. 30).
The award, in its fourth academic year, honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAACs) from the conference’s 15 member institutions vote on the recipients.
Concordia Texas was honored for team sportsmanship in West Division volleyball for the second straight year, while Texas-Tyler claimed the honor in the East Division for the first time. Texas-Tyler also got the top team sportsmanship nod for the first time in men’s cross country, while Hardin-Simmons and Mississippi College split the crown on the women’s side for the second straight year. MC has claimed at least a share of every women’s cross country sportsmanship honor that has been awarded. East Texas Baptist was awarded for two sports: football for the second consecutive year and men’s soccer for the first time. Ozarks was voted the top sportsmanship team in women’s soccer for the first time.
The next SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards will be named after the basketball season.
