RICHARDSON, Texas –– Mississippi College, the University of Texas at Tyler, Texas Lutheran University and Hardin-Simmons University will each serve as first round hosts of the 2009 American Southwest Conference Baseball Championship Tournament Series, to be held April 24-25, after locking up one of the top two seeds from their respective divisions.

The winners from the four, best-of-3 series (also featuring the University of Texas at Dallas, University of the Ozarks, McMurry University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor) will advance to the championship round, a double elimination format to be held May 1-3 at the site of the top remaining East Division seed. The ASC champion will earn the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

For the second straight year, live statistics and live audio will be available for all first round games. They can be linked to from the conference’s website and the athletics websites of all host institutions.

MC and Texas-Tyler shared the East Division crown with 14-4 league marks, while Texas Lutheran went 16-5 in conference play to win the West Division championship.

NOTES: This is the 13th year of the ASC baseball tournament. . . . The West Division has produced the ASC champion 11 times. The only East team to prevail was Mississippi College in 2003. . . . The hosting rights for the Championship Round rotate each year between each division’s top remaining seed.
