HSU Women Win Seventh Straight ASC Title

ABILENE, TX --- Hardin-Simmons’ women’s soccer team won its seventh straight American Southwest Conference title with a 3-0 win over Texas-Dallas Sunday nght at HSU Soccer Complex.

Megan Ryan put the Cowgirls on the board first with a goal in the 12th minute off the 21st assist of the season from Katie Kuykendall. The assist tied her with her sister Amy for the HSU season-single record.

Freshman Taylor Thigpen scored her 15th goal of the season at the 22:57 mark on an assist from Ryan. Carlyn Powers made it 3-0 in the 77th minute off an assist from Allison Ray.

“These girls knew what they wanted to do from the start of the season, we have big goals for this team and this is just another one of the goals off the list," HSU head coach Marcus Wood said. "We are excited about our performance and we are excited to win, the girls came out focused and played well.”

HSU outshot UTD 18-4 in the game and 9-3 on goal. Christi Carr made three saves in goal for the Cowgirls.

HSU is now 18-1 on the year and they will found out on Monday their opponent in the NCAA Tournament. UT-Dallas finished its season with a record of 7-8-6.
