LEXINGTON, KY --- Texas-Dallas junior setter Niki Calverley earned All-American status on Tuesday as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its 29th annual All-America teams for NCAA Division III women’s volleyball. Calverly was named to the Third Team, the second straight year a player from the American Southwest Conference has landed the honor.
Other players from the ASC that received honorable mention were Texas-Dallas junior middle blocker Jessica Nassau, and Hardin-Simmons senior outside hitter Chelsie Fowler and senior middle blocker Kaela Parnell, who was a third-team All-American in 2008.
Last week, Calverley (Wylie, TX) was named to the AVCA’s All-South Region after guiding the Comets to the first undefeated season (25-0) in league history. The Comets bowed out in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, however, dropping a 3-0 match to Maryville College (TN).
Calverley was crowned the ASC tournament MVP for dishing out 55 assists in the league championship match—a 3-2 win over Hardin-Simmons. With 2,705 career assists, she was twice named ASC East Division Offensive Player of the Week in 2009.
