ALPINE, TX --- The Hardin-Simmons volleyball team claimed the American Southwest Conference West Division championship as it swept Sul Ross State 25-13, 25-16, 25-10 on Friday night. The Cowgirls, who have three of the last five West crowns, also won their 20th match of the season.
HSU (20-6, 15-2 ASC) will be the West's No. 1 seed in the ASC Volleyball Championship at UTD Activity Center in Richardson, Texas, on November 6-7.
HSU was sharp from the outset and it continued through three games. The Cowgirls had a .446 hitting percentage in the match. Kaela Parnell led the HSU offense with 11 kills and Chelsie Fowler and Madison Reyes both did not have a hitting error and contributed eight and seven kills respectively.
Defensively, Fowler had 19 digs for the Cowgirls and junior Gracen Harris added 14. The 14 digs moved her past teammate Sam Lucien for the all-time Hardin-Simmons career digs record.
The Cowgirls also had the serve game working with 11 aces in the match. Fowler and Lucien had three each. Lucien had 23 assists and Erin Davis added 14 for HSU.
Brooke Bankston paced Sul Ross State with seven kills.
Sul Ross State fell to 1-23 on the year and 0-17 in conference play. HSU will close out its regular season at Schreiner on Saturday at 3 p.m.
