ABILENE, TX --- Hardin-Simmons’ women’s soccer team scored two goals in the first 2:31 against Schreiner and cruised to its 15th straight win and its 11th straight American Southwest Conference regular season or division title with a 10-0 home win at HSU Soccer Complex. The Cowgirls also earned the right again to host the ASC Women''s Soccer Championship Tournament on November 6-8.
Freshman Taylor Thigpen had three goals for the six-time defending ASC champion Cowgirls, including two in the first 2:31. The hat trick gave her 13 goals for the season. Amy Kuykendall added to the lead with her eighth goal of the year at the 17:07 mark off a corner kick from her sister Katie. It remained 3-0 through the first half.
In the second half, the Cowgirls scored seven times. Miranda Bersosa scored at the 47:33 mark and Thigpen scored from Amy Kuykendall at the 54:10. Amy Kuykendall returned the assist favor to her sister in the 60th minute.
Mickey Rogers, Kylie Rutherford, Chelsea Flores and Jordan Morley each added goals in the second half to set up the final score.
HSU outshot Schreiner 38-1 in the match and 27-1 on goal. Christi Carr and Rebecca Roth each played a half in goal for the Cowgirls. Genevieve Monroe allowed 10 goals for Schreiner, but she also had several spectacular saves and she finished the match with 17 saves.
The Cowgirls are now 15-1 on the year and 11-0 in ASC play. Schreiner fell to 2-11-3 overall and to 0-9-3 in league play. Hardin-Simmons will honor its three seniors on senior day Saturday prior to its 1 p.m. game with Texas Lutheran.
