RICHARDSON, Texas –– Artwork created by Mississippi College senior graphic design major Jessica Millis will be used on all American Southwest Conference championship T-Shirts for the 2009-10 athletic year, the ASC office announced on Thursday (Oct. 15) after a vote of the conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Millis won the conference’s fourth annual ASC Championship T-Shirt Design Challenge, which was open to all students of member institutions.
Millis’ design features futuristic shades of green inside the ASC seal with the letters of ‘American Southwest Conference’ all in green. The two stars inside the seal are in black as well as the outlining. The text of ‘CHAMPIONS’ is curved above the seal, while ‘2009-2010’ is curved below the seal – both are in a black wavy-style font.
“Green is my favorite color and I also thought it would be sporty and neutral,” said Mills, a Brandon, Miss., native. “I loved the (conference) logo the way it was, but I just wanted to make it stand out more and do so in a way that both men and women would like it.”
The design will go on white shirts that all ASC champions will receive immediately following their victories. The individual sport names will appear in black on the left sleeve of the shirts in the same font as ‘CHAMPIONS’ and ‘2009-10.’
Millis, who plans on receiving her bachelor’s degree in the summer of 2010 and taking more photography classes, wants to pursue a career in digital photography and graphic design.
The first conference championship event of 2009-10 will be cross country on October 31.
