Fall SAAC Sportsmanship Awards Announced

RICHARDSON, Texas –– Concordia University Texas, Howard Payne University, Louisiana College, McMurry University, Mississippi College and University of Texas at Dallas are all winners of American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Team Sportsmanship Awards for 2008 fall sports, the conference office announced on Wednesday (Dec. 3).

The award, in its second athletic year, honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committees from the conference’s 15 member institutions vote on the recipients.

McMurry University was honored in men’s cross country for the second straight year and shared the women’s cross country award with Mississippi College, which also made it two years in a row with the honor. Howard Payne repeated its top sportsmanship crowns in football and West Division volleyball. Concordia Texas was named the top sportsmanship team in women’s soccer, while Louisiana College claimed the honor on the men’s side. The University of Texas at Dallas won the honor for East Division volleyball.
