RICHARDSON, Texas –– Artwork created by Hardin-Simmons University graduate student R.C. Waters will be used on all American Southwest Conference championship T-Shirts for the 2008-09 athletic year, the ASC office announced on Thursday (Oct. 16) after a vote of the conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Waters won the conference’s third annual ASC Championship T-Shirt Design Challenge, which was open to all students of member institutions.
Waters’ design features a white ASC seal outlined in blue with logos from each of the conference’s 15 member institutions faded inside of it. The text of ‘CHAMPIONS’ is below the seal in blue, with ‘2008-2009’ directly below that in red – both are centered and shadowed in white.
“I’ve seen other designs on T-Shirts before where the names and logos of all the teams in a league appear, and I really like that,” said Waters, a native of Mesquite, Texas. “So I put all of our schools’ logos together in one to give a twist to it.”
The design will go on black shirts that all ASC champions will receive immediately following their victories. The individual sport names, along with the ASC seal, will appear in white on the back tag of the shirts in the same font as ‘CHAMPIONS.’
Waters, who received his bachelor’s degree in art education in 2008 and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Sports and Recreation Management, was a three-year letter winner for the HSU baseball team and is currently the graduate assistant in the Sports Information Office. The utility player started games at third base, shortstop and second base for the Cowboys’ 2008 ASC West Division title team.
The first conference championship event of 2008-09 will be cross country on November 1.
